Earlier this month we published a post on St. Augustine of Hippo writing to one Bp. Hesychius regarding the Church’s visibility during the Great Apostasy before Christ returns:

The question of the visibility of the Church is a crucial one, for the Church founded by Christ is visible by her very nature and she must ever remain in her essential constitution exactly the way Christ founded her: “But since the Church is such [having both visible and invisible elements] by divine will and constitution, such it must uniformly remain to the end of time.… READ MORE

Just asking…

Thirteen Inconvenient Questions
for the Society of St. Pius X

It has now been over three years that the priestly fraternity established in 1970 by Abp. Marcel Lefebvre, the so-called Society of St. Pius X (SSPX), has had a new superior general. On July 11, 2018, the SSPX general chapter convened in Econe, Switzerland, and elected Fr. Davide Pagliarani for a twelve-year term to succeed Bp. Bernard Fellay as head of the group, who had been in office since 1994.

Considering how antithetical to all the SSPX stands for, the last eight-and-a-half years under “Pope” Francis (Jorge Bergoglio) have been, one would think that the Lefebvrists are up in arms against the brazen apostasy being constantly perpetrated by the man they insist is the Vicar of Christ on earth.… READ MORE

Saint Augustine: “The Church Will Not Appear” during Great Tribulation before Christ’s Return

When people debate the issue of Sedevacantism, sooner or later someone who does not agree with the position will object that Sedevacantism is not reconcilable with the Catholic doctrine of the Church’s visibility.

While it is certainly true that our current situation presents some difficulties in that regard, the objection is by no means as powerful as it is often thought to be. The following articles provide some good information on the visibility issue:

If Sedevacantism were understood to mean that the Church does not, per se and by unalterable divine institution, have a visible hierarchy, then such a position would indeed be unacceptable because it would be heretical.… READ MORE

Dynamite lecture on the Catholic crisis!

Eclipse of the Church: The Case for Sedevacantism

During this year’s Fatima Conference hosted by the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen (CMRI) in Spokane, Washington, Mr. Mario Derksen, pictured below, delivered a compelling 79-minute lecture making the case for Sedevacantism in a way you may not have heard before.

Instead of going through heaps of detailed theological arguments, the speaker presented the “big picture”:

The Catholic Church was founded by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as the indefectible Ark of Salvation that is nothing less than His very own Mystical Body. Just as Christ the Lord cannot fail to be “the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn 14:6), neither can His Mystical Body fail to be “the pillar and ground of the truth” (1 Tim 3:15).… READ MORE

Refuting yet another attempt to avoid Sedevacantism…

Can the Magisterium ‘devour’ Sacred Tradition?
Reply to an irresponsible Article by Rorate Caeli

In their efforts to steer a middle course between the Novus Ordo religion on the one side and Sedevacantism on the other, the recognize-and-resist traditionalists must continually come up with ideas and arguments that justify a divorce of the Deposit of Faith from the Church’s magisterium. The reason is simple: The man they stubbornly insist on acknowledging as the true and valid Pope of the Catholic Church, is himself not a Catholic and teaches heresies and other anti-Catholic errors even in his official magisterial acts.… READ MORE

Fr. Gabriel Lavery, CMRI

Sedevacantist Priest interviewed on Public Radio to explain why Francis is not the Pope (FULL AUDIO)

Explaining to a secular audience why the individual everywhere known as “Pope Francis” is not in fact the Pope of the Catholic Church but merely the head of an apostate Modernist sect, is no easy task. Nevertheless, Fr. Gabriel Lavery of the sedevacantist Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen (Congregatio Mariae Reginae Immaculatae or CMRI), pictured above, gave it his best shot last month.

On Aug. 31, 2021, Father was interviewed live on WOSU, a public radio station in Ohio, by host Ann Fisher for an episode of her weekday program All Sides with Ann Fisher.… READ MORE

Rev. Michael DeSaye of Trenton, NJ

Novus Ordo Priest becomes Sedevacantist, Diocese Excommunicates

On June 2, 2018, Rev. Michael G. DeSaye was ordained a Catholic priest.

At least that is what he thought at the time.

Less than three years after what he has since come to understand was an invalid ordination ceremony, presided over by a Modernist layman rather than a Roman Catholic bishop, “Father” DeSaye asked his local ordinary, “Bishop” David M. O’Connell, to accept his resignation from the diocese of Trenton, New Jersey. The request was granted.

On May 10 of this year, “Bp.” O’Connell released the following extremely diplomatic announcement:

Why still be a Catholic? A Critique of Peter Kwasniewski’s Answer to a despondent Novus Ordo Seminarian

On May 18, 2021, the semi-trad web site One Peter Five published a moving, desperate cry for answers by a Novus Ordo seminarian. Entitled, “Seminarian: ‘Is There Any Reason Why I Should Remain Catholic?'”, the appeal showcases the impossibility of being a Roman Catholic in the Vatican II Sect, sincerest efforts notwithstanding.

In a nutshell, the reason it is not possible to be a Catholic in the Vatican II religion is that the Vatican II religion is not Catholic — it’s as simple as that.… READ MORE

The Battle for the Catholic Ethos:
Peter Kwasniewski tries to save Recognize-and-Resist

On Mar. 26, 2021, the well-known semi-traditionalist lecturer and retired theology professor Dr. Peter Kwasniewski posted a message on Facebook that attempts to salvage the theologically-embattled recognize-and-resist position. The entire post reads as follows:

Is “Recognize and Resist” antithetical to the Catholic ethos? Can quotations from Leo XIII of [sic] other popes of the last 150 years rule it out?

Obviously one should not ever want to be in a position of resisting a wayward pope, who is ventilating his private and dubious theological opinions from his chair, or who, while strenuously avoiding the requisites of infallibility, sows confusion and error.
