‘Bishop’ Huonder says Francis told him SSPX Not Schismatic! But what is that worth?

A video by the retired Swiss Novus Ordo bishop Vitus Huonder (b. 1942) is making waves.

Huonder, the former ordinary of Chur, Switzerland, has been supportive of the Society of St. Pius X for a few years now. The Society, abbreviated ‘SSPX’ in the United States and Canada and ‘FSSPX’ in the rest of the world, was founded in 1970 by Abp. Bp. Fellay and Fr. Schmidberger elected “Advisors” to new SSPX Leadership

The Lefebvrist Society of St. Pius X has concluded its General Chapter in Swiss Ecône, which meets once every six years and elects a superior every twelve years. The election of the Superior General had been placed first on the agenda, and on July 11, the announcement was made that Fr. Davide Pagliarani had been elected, replacing Bp. Fellay, whose second term had come to an end.

On July 20, the penultimate day of the conference, the SSPX General House released another communiqué, which states:

The General Chapter of the SSPX has elected two General Councillors to serve on the Council of the Superior General, Father Davide Pagliarani, in accordance with the customs and law of the Church.

SSPX’s Fr. Schmidberger makes Case for Union with Rome

The Spanish-speaking “Resistance-SSPX” web site Non Possumus has published an internal letter of Fr. Franz Schmidberger, formerly the Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X (1982-94) and currently the head of the SSPX seminary in Zaitzkofen (Germany), in which he lays out the case for full canonical recognition by Modernist Rome under “Pope” Francis and responds to various objections.

The three-page letter, dated February 19, 2016, is entitled Überlegungen zur Kirche und der Stellung der Priesterbruderschaft St.
