The Unsolvable Pendulum Problem of the Society of St. Pius X

The Society of St. Pius X (SSPX or FSSPX), founded by Abp. Marcel Lefebvre in 1970, is once again in the news, this time on account of its Jubilee pilgrimage to Rome last week (see a few official photos here).

Some SSPXers are celebrating, whereas others are expressing concern. The reason for the inconsistent reactions to the same development is that some see it as Rome accepting the SSPX as Catholic and recognizing the rights of ‘Tradition’ (a Lefebvrist euphemism for what is simply the Catholic Faith); whereas others see it as a dangerous luring of the Lefebvrist leadership into the ecumenical zoo presided over by Modernist Rome.… READ MORE

Vatican II Ecclesiology Refuted Before Vatican II

A battle of doctrine: Pope Pius XII (left) vs. Antipope Paul VI (right)

Part of the core mission of Novus Ordo Watch is to demonstrate how the teachings, laws, and worship of the modern ‘Catholic Church’ reflect a faith that is essentially different from, and therefore wholly incompatible with, the Roman Catholic Faith as it was known until the death of Pope Pius XII in 1958.

One of the most glaring deviations from the prior doctrine is visible in the theology of the Church (ecclesiology), that is, in the Catholic Church’s understanding of her own nature, function, and necessity.… READ MORE

Why (Not) Sedevacantism?
Answering Objections and Concerns

On Aug. 8, 2025, Anthony Abbate of Avoiding Babylon published a 12-minute video on Twitter/X in which he shared some thoughts about why he does not think Sedevacantism is the right position to adopt in these incredibly difficult and confusing times.

Realizing that addressing Anthony’s points and answering his objections could not reasonably done on Twitter, yours truly decided to respond at sufficient length on an episode of the Catholic Family Podcast with Kevin Davis.

We played Anthony’s video in full, pausing it occasionally to react and provide commentary as needed.… READ MORE

Church of Inclusion:
SSPX Pilgrimage Listed in Vatican Jubilee Calendar

The Vatican’s jubilee logo (left) and the FSSPX coat of arms

The Novus Ordo Church is currently in the midst of a jubilee year, which opened on Dec. 24 of last year and will conclude this coming Jan. 6. It is being observed under the motto Peregrinantes in Spem (“Pilgrims of Hope”). The silliness of its logo is matched only by the creepiness of its mascot:

‘Pope’ Francis, at whose direction the 2025 Jubilee was put together, had been advocating for a ‘Big Tent’ Church for years — his motto was “everyone, everyone, everyone!”READ MORE

Altar-ing the Faith…

Altars Are For Sacrifice, Tables Are For Meals:
Behold 14 Dreadful Novus Ordo ‘Altars’

The following is a collage of fourteen table-like constructs that are used in Novus Ordo churches as ‘altars’ on which supposed Catholic priests perform what they call the ‘Eucharistic celebration’ — the Novus Ordo counterpart to the Holy Catholic Mass.

As the ‘New Mass’, as it is often called, is not the Sacrifice of Calvary but merely a Eucharistic meal service, it makes sense that the Neo-Modernists prefer to use tables, even though they may still call them ‘altars’ (to feign some continuity with the past) and indeed still use some real altars for their false Mass as well.… READ MORE

‘Bp.’ Glettler suddenly discovers evil of blasphemy…

Austrian ‘Bishop’ Says Showing Trump on a Cross Is ‘Perverse’ – But Admires Crucified Frog!

Few Novus Ordo bishops have a more blatant record of appreciating, promoting, and defending blasphemy than ‘Bishop’ Hermann Glettler of Innsbruck, Austria. Indeed, until this week, one might have said that there has apparently never been a depiction of blasphemy he didn’t like.

But one would have been wrong.

It turns out that the Austrian blasphemer has now found a piece of blasphemy he does consider offensive and unacceptable: It is the ‘artwork’ Saint or Sinner?READ MORE

Was Cardinal John Henry Newman a Modernist?

On July 31, 2025, the Vatican announced that Cardinal John Henry Newman (1801-1890), whom ‘Pope’ Francis invalidly declared a saint in 2019, will be named a Doctor of the Church by ‘Pope’ Leo XIV later this year:

We may suppose that there is a reason why Leo XIV and his fellow-Modernists want to have Cardinal Newman honored as a Doctor of the Church, and it’s probably not because they want to promote the celebrated convert’s theological defenses of Catholicism against Anglicanism and other heresies.… READ MORE
