Pachamama is here to stay!

Three Novus Ordo Cardinals attend Syncretistic Pagan Worship Ceremony in Panama

On Oct. 29, 2022, the Italian web site La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana, which is the Italian edition of Daily Compass, reported on an interesting incident that took place in Panama in connection with the seventh Continental Symposium on Indian Theology, which had been held from Oct. 3-8.

But first, some background regarding the conference itself. Vatican News explains:

About 50 pastoral agents, bishops responsible for indigenous pastoral care, religious, lay people and indigenous theologians and delegates from their communities will reflect on the “Holy Spirit and the native peoples”, theme of the meeting, which aims to continue the path of deepening the doctrinal contents of Indian theology, to advance in its clarification in the light of the Word of God and the Magisterium of the Church.

For some, reflecting on “the Holy Spirit and the native peoples” also included attending a neo-pagan Mayan ceremony that reportedly included prayer to a “mother-father god”, as well as worship of Pachamama (Gaia) and a sun-god.

La Nuova Bussola Quotidiana called the ritual

a verbose and symbolic concentrate of polytheistic pagan rites, candles and national flags. Stuff that goes back centuries to when the Church opposed the beliefs of pre-Columbian peoples with the Gospel. And when we talk about belief, human sacrifices should not be forgotten. However, this time it is the Church itself promoting a vague spirituality of peoples whose religiosity was not exactly to be imitated.

The idolatrous ceremony took place on Oct. 5 at the Monte Alverna Spiritual Retreat House in Panama City. Interestingly enough, it was broadcast live by the official YouTube account of the Panamanian Bishops’ Conference. Here is the full video:

According to the same report cited above, three Novus Ordo cardinals were also in attendance: José Luis Lacunza Maestrojuán (elevated in 2015), Álvaro Leonel Ramazzini Imeri (elevated in 2019), and Felipe Arizmendi Esquivel (elevated in 2020). All of them had received their red hat from Francis. It is not clear to what extent their participation was active, if at all. At the very least they were present among those in attendance.

Four outraged souls wrote a powerful open letter to the Panamanian episcopal conference to complain about and condemn this dangerous pagan nonsense. The missive can be found in Spanish here:

The authors of the letter point out that “in the first minutes of the live broadcast” the ceremony is referred to as “a ‘Mayan rite'”, which constitutes a clear violation of the very First Commandment: “I am the Lord thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt not have strange gods before me” (Ex 20:2-3; cf. Mk 12:30). They also explain how blatantly this neo-paganism contradicts the teaching of Sacred Scripture and the mission of the Catholic Church, and they condemn the invocation of a “mother-father god” as a “direct insult to the Holy Trinity”.

The following lines from the open letter provide some more detail about what took place during the idolatrous celebration:

At the beginning of the ritual, an individual describes what is placed in the center of the multitude on the earth, and this is the focal point for the whole Mayan ritual. There is placed a certain book called the Popol Vuh, which is the sacred book of the Mayas — said the same person who was speaking. This book is a polytheistic, pagan book, and is nothing remotely close or connected to the Sacred Revelation given by God in the Bible and in the Apostolic Tradition. It is a book full of strange figures, human sacrifices, worship of fictitious gods, murders, among other elements that are totally opposed to the Catholic faith. It is not possible for a Catholic to be in a rite where this book is admired or placed in a place of honor, for the reasons previously mentioned as well as affirming what is said in 1 Corinthians 10; 16, 21-22 and 2 Corinthians 6, 15-16, where the Apostles firmly state that idolatry and paganism are contrary to the fidelity that we must have toward God; and these acts can unleash his wrath. Further on in the ritual, the so-called “Pachamama” is explicitly invoked, of which there are many conceptions or ways of explaining this false deity in the diverse ancient beliefs of Hispanic America; we are obliged to reject this pagan deity because it opposes and clashes directly with what was previously explained [in this letter] regarding idolatry and paganism….

Finally, it is a baneful act that the sun was given obeisance several times, as if it were a deity to which we owe honor or veneration. This in itself is sufficient evidence that this ritual voluntarily distances itself both as a whole and in detail from what the Catholic Church has infallibly taught and at the same time constitutes an abominable act in the eyes of Almighty God. (Cf. Major Catechism of Pope St. Pius X n.365 and 367. CCC 2110, 2112-2114).

Ladies and gentlemen, this latest scandalous episode demonstrates that the Vatican II religion is on a trajectory toward full-blown paganism. And how could it be otherwise, since Vatican II planted the “time bombs” for this? Paul VI promulgated the documents; John Paul II introduced the acceptance of paganism; and now Francis has really kicked things up a notch with his “Mother Earth” worship, thinly disguised as “care for our common home”, that is, environmentalism.

If we look at the last few years in context — rather than just seeing each scandalous incident by itself, in isolation from the rest — a clear picture is emerging:

Obviously, the “Catholic cardinals” attending this ceremony won’t have to worry about being disciplined by the “Pope”. He himself, after all, is leading them all by example:

Meanwhile, Francis is keeping his church safe from the Traditional Latin Mass, lest the gates of heaven should prevail.

You wouldn’t want the “idolatry of ritualism” around, now would you?!
