A New Sedevacantist Bishop:

Fr. James Carroll to be consecrated a Bishop in December 2018

The sedevacantist Congregation of St. Pius V (CSPV) in Oyster Bay Cove, New York, announced today its plans for the consecration of a new bishop. On December 27, 2018, the Feast of St. John the Evangelist, Bp. Joseph Santay will consecrate Fr. James Carroll a bishop, assisted by Bp. Clarence Kelly as co-consecrator. Fr. Carroll was ordained a priest by Bp. Santay in August 2007.

The Congregation of St. Pius V was founded in 1996 by Bp. Kelly. Kelly himself is a member of the Society of St. Pius V (SSPV), which was founded in 1983 by himself and eight other priests who had been expelled from the Lefebvrist Society of St. Pius X. (A free podcast with three of the nine original clerics explaining the events can be listened to here.)

Bp. Kelly was consecrated a bishop by Bp. Alfred Francis Méndez-Gonzalez, C.S.C., of Arecibo, Puerto Rico, on Oct. 19, 1993. Bp. Joseph Santay was consecrated a bishop by Bp. Kelly on Feb. 28, 2007, and is not to be confused with the recently-consecrated Bp. Joseph Selway of Most Holy Trinity Seminary in Brooksville, Florida.
