Former Novus Ordo apologist takes council to task…
Vatican II Revisited:
Louie Verrecchio Dismantles the Conciliar Documents

This past December 8 marked the 60th anniversary of the closing of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65), that ominous assembly that is the magisterial ground zero for ‘modern Catholicism’ — an attempt to do the impossible and reconcile Catholicism to the secular modern world by means of an aggiornamento (“updating”) of the Catholic religion.
The result was a diabolical counterfeit Catholicism that embraces, in one way or another, many of the errors the Catholic Church sternly condemned until the death of Pope Pius XII in 1958: ecumenism, religious liberty, Sillonism, collegiality, subjectivism, liberalism, Modernism — the list is long and the errors are deadly.
We have previously published a collection of critical resources on the council; it can be accessed here:
Convoked by ‘Pope’ John XXIII (r. 1958-63), who died less than a year after the council began, all its 16 documents were ratified and promulgated by ‘Pope’ Paul VI (r. 1963-78) most solemnly, with the following words:
Each and all these items which are set forth in this Constitution [Declaration, Decree, etc.] have met with the approval of the Council Fathers. And We by the apostolic power given Us by Christ, together with the Venerable Fathers, approve, decree and establish them in the Holy Spirit and command that what has thus been decided in council be promulgated for the glory of God.
After the council ended, the post-conciliar magisterium quickly set out to transform every aspect of Catholic life in accordance with the directives of ‘Vatican II’, as the council is called for short.
About three months after its close, Paul VI spoke of a “Conciliar Church”; and indeed it is fitting to speak of a new church, as the council clearly spawned a new religion: “Neither do they put new wine into old bottles. Otherwise the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish. But new wine they put into new bottles: and both are preserved” (Mt 9:17).
For decades various theological strands within the Conciliar Church have fought the battle over the meaning and ‘correct understanding’ of Vatican II. What matters, however, is not what some theologian, author, lawyer, journalist, or blogger argues with regard to the council, but how the post-conciliar magisterium itself interprets, understands, and applies the new orientation. A perfect example can be found in ecumenism. While some die-hard ultra-conservatives may still be trying to convince themselves that ecumenism is ultimately about facilitating the conversion of non-Catholic ‘Christians’ to Catholicism, both the words and actions of the Conciliar Church refute that idea.
In a series of episodes that have recently aired on the Catholic Family Podcast, former Novus Ordo apologist Louie Verrecchio joins host Kevin Davis to investigate the conciliar texts in some depth. Verrecchio demonstrates that the ultimate problem with Vatican II is not some misrepresentation of the council by dissenting theologians — neither its fabled “spirit” often invoked by progressivists, nor the “Council of the media”, as ‘Pope’ Benedict XVI argued in 2013 — but the actual council texts themselves.
Mr. Verrecchio is eminently qualified to speak on Vatican II, even though he is only a layman. Before his discovery of traditional Catholicism, he was an avid public defender and teacher of the council. In fact, he gave seminars and wrote study material defending and ‘explaining’ it: Harvesting the Fruit of Vatican II was the name of his acclaimed “faith formation series”. He received endorsements from various personalities of the New Church, including that of ‘Cardinal’ George Pell (1941-2023) of Sydney, Australia.
Below we are making available, in one convenient place, all of Mr. Verrecchio’s video reviews of the most important Vatican II documents on the Catholic Family Podcast with Kevin Davis. In case the videos won’t display for some, we are also including the direct YouTube links under each title. Furthermore, the full text of the respective Vatican II document can be found linked in its title.

Of course the new religion spawned by the council has already canonized its founders: Both John XXIII and Paul VI are ‘saints’ in the Vatican II Church. They were declared as such by ‘Pope’ Francis (r. 2013-2025), who also ‘canonized’ John Paul II (r. 1978-2005) and ‘beatified’ John Paul I (r. Aug.-Sep. 1978). The message is clear: Every ‘pope’ since Vatican II is a saint, don’t you doubt it! (‘Pope’ Benedict XVI [r. 2005-2013], who died just over 3 years ago, is already being talked about as a saint by some.)
Meanwhile, ‘Pope’ Leo XIV has begun a new catechesis series for his Wednesday audiences, and it’s on the Vatican II documents. To counter the expected propaganda, Verrecchio is currently publishing weekly ‘Conciliar Catechesis Watch’ videos on his blog, available here: Introduction | Dei Verbum 1 | Dei Verbum 2 (published so far).
The Second Vatican Council is the alpha and omega of the Conciliar Church. Take it away, and the false new religion will collapse.
