It’s the first week of the month, which means it’s time again for a new “Pope Video”.

As he does every month, so too in May the papal pretender in the Vatican has now released a video advancing his prayer intention for the next 30 days: “That Christians in Africa, in imitation of the Merciful Jesus, may give prophetic witness to reconciliation, justice, and peace” (source).

For those who are unable to play the video, a brief description: The clip shows, in sequence, different African people looking at themselves in a mirror, in various settings. Approximately 18 seconds into the video we see a woman in what appears to be indigenous African dress (or lack thereof, as it is quite scanty), a necklace around her neck with a cross pendant, all the while showing cleavage. She is also looking at herself in a mirror. At around 0:26, only a mirror is shown, with the reflection of a man and a child chiseling away at something, when suddenly the mirror shatters. Then Francis appears on the screen, making his request for the prayer intention. As he mercifully disappears, we go back to the mirrors: One of the pieces of the shattered mirror from a few seconds before gets picked up by a young man, who then holds it in front of his face to allow a young woman seen earlier to happily view her own reflection in it. The video then cuts back to Francis, who finishes his spiel, and then cuts to black. In short: whatever.

Throughout this video, we hear Francis’ voice, who says the following (in Spanish, with English subtitles):

When we look at Africa, we see much more than its great natural richness.
We see its joie de vivre [=joy of living], and above all, we see grounds for hope in Africa’s rich intellectual, cultural and religious heritage.
But we cannot fail to see the fratricidal wars decimating peoples and destroying these natural and cultural resources.
Let us join with our brothers and sisters of this great continent, and pray together that Christians in Africa, in imitation of the Merciful Jesus, may give prophetic witness to reconciliation, justice, and peace.

So, Mr. Bergoglio declares that “we see grounds for hope in Africa’s rich intellectual, cultural and religious heritage”.

Precisely what religious heritage is he talking about? The heritage of “African traditional religion” practiced by the Voodoo sorcerers the Vatican invited to the 2002 interreligious prayer meeting in Assisi? Certainly “Pope Saint” John Paul II would have no problem with that, lauding, as he once did, the African Voodoo religion for its alleged “sense of the sacred, belief in a single god who is good, a sense of celebration, [and] esteem for the moral life and for harmony in society” (see “Voodoo You Trust?” by John K. Weiskittel here).

Notice that Francis was deliberately general and vague: He mentioned the rich “religious”, not “Catholic” or even “Christian”, heritage. In other words, he is saying he sees hope for Africa because of what false and even idolatrous religions have bequeathed it. This says a lot, and it’s entirely consistent with what he told migrants of different religions in 2014:

Sharing our experience in carrying that cross, to expel the illness within our hearts, which embitters our life: it is important that you do this in your meetings. Those that are Christian, with the Bible, and those that are Muslim, with the Quran. The faith that your parents instilled in you will always help you move on.

Perhaps Moses should have had hope for the Israelites when they started worshipping the Golden Calf (see Exodus 32), since they were but in the process of leaving for him their very own “rich religious heritage” once he would come down from the mountain!

No, it won’t help to say that Francis invoked our Lord Jesus Christ in this video, for he merely expressed his wish “that Christians in Africa, in imitation of the Merciful Jesus, may give prophetic witness to reconciliation, justice, and peace.” Notice that he did not request that we pray for the intention that Catholic missionaries be successful in their work of spreading the Gospel and converting unbelievers, which would allow us to have genuine hope for true and lasting peace to flourish among the people of Africa (cf. Jn 14:27). Rather, he merely wants “Christians” — and we know that by this he means Orthodox and Protestants as well — to witness to some “reconciliation, justice, and peace”, a generic endeavor that would also work for the Dalai Lama, the Archlayman of Canterbury, and Antonio Guterres.

Make no mistake about it: The “Merciful Jesus” is invoked here only as a motivating force, as Someone in whose (alleged) imitation he wants Christians to preach the false gospel of Naturalist reconciliation and fraternity. Bergoglio’s reference to our Blessed Lord is actually a blasphemy here, because he is implying that our Lord Himself preached this false Naturalist gospel.

Francis has made it clear again and again that he does not seek anyone’s conversion to the true Faith. He wants people to convert, alright, but only to “justice”, to “fraternity”, to “peace”, and to cleaner air and fewer carbon emissions. If “imitating the Merciful Jesus” is what makes you do that, then that’s what he appeals to. But if for you it means imitating Mohammed, Confucius, or Zoroaster, then that is what he hopes you will do.

Thus, the “Merciful Jesus” remark is but a sales gimmick, a wholly interchangeable placeholder at the service of Francis’ dogma-less religion of universal human brotherhood, in essence also known as Freemasonry, the archenemy of the Catholic Church. No wonder the Masons are cheering him on. (And no, don’t fall for the silly ruse that Francis has a problem with Masons. He talks like a Mason, acts like a Mason, and shakes hands like a Mason. In Buenos Aires, he is even an honorary member of the Rotary Club.)

But there is another very troublesome element in this video, and it’s a visual one: When the young man holds that piece of broken mirror up to allow the young woman to see her reflection in it, we see to the right of the man’s left hand a very clear face:

This “face” is visible in the video from 0:42-0:47. It appears to be part of a mural found on the wall right behind where the young man is standing. It looks like it is part of a leaf hanging from a tree in the painting. The question is, why are they shooting this scene in such a way that this spooky visage appears in it at all, and in such a conspicuous place?

Do not think that such a thing happens by accident. After all, we are not dealing with an amateur production here, and we are not dealing with a spontaneous live broadcast either. This is an extremely professional creation, where every microsecond of every scene is planned, staged, and verified before it is released, pixel by pixel. The Pope Video site lists La Machi as the creative agency and Marta Moreiras and AdHoc Producciones as the production houses (see here under “Credits”).

So, you can be sure that when such a demonic-looking face pops up in a scene together with the words “Merciful Jesus” in a video for the “Pope”, it is not coincidence. They could have chosen any number of locations for this particular scene and any number of camera angles. They chose this one, and they wanted it to show up the way it did.

Why?

Regardless of the answer, there is one more question to be resolved: What’s with the mirrors in the video?

Mirrors have no particular significance in Catholicism, at least not a positive one. The only passage from the New Testament that comes to mind is this: “For if a man be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he shall be compared to a man beholding his own countenance in a glass” (Jas 1:23). We may presume that this is not what Francis’ video was trying to draw attention to.
