Well, at least it was invalid…

The 102nd edition of the notorious German Katholikentag (“Catholic Congress”) is currently underway in the city of Stuttgart. The official web site has a section for English speakers here.
The Katholikentag (pronounced cut-oh-LEAK-un-tuhg) has genuinely Catholic origins in the 1800s, but since at least 1968 it has been an insufferable sewer of anti-Catholic ideas and rebellion against God’s order. At this point it is an utter cesspool of Modernism, Indifferentism, feminism, Marxism, environmentalism, sexual immorality, and liturgical chaos — to be outdone only by its Lutheran counterpart.
As the local ordinary of Rottenburg and Stuttgart, the Novus Ordo bishop hosting this whole circus is the Modernist Gebhard Fürst (b. 1948), successor in that role to the infamous “Cardinal” Walter Kasper.
Furst has a track record as a stellar Modernist. In the past he has presided over things such as the following:
- “Forbidden Love”: Diocese of Rottenburg-Stuttgart calls for Marriage Rite for Homosexuals
- Diocese-endorsed “Catholic” Christmas Video features Celebrity Drag Queen
- Perversion meets Blasphemy: Diocesan “Catholic Youth” win Gay Pride Award
- German Diocese endorses Gay Pride Parade, prays for “Diversity” and “Openness”

The liturgical opening of the Katholikentag on the first full day of the festival was the “Eucharistic celebration” on May 26, which also happened to be Ascension Day. Present among the attendees were various politicians of note, including Mrs. Muhterem Aras, a Green Party politician of Turkish ethnicity, who presides over the parliament of the state government, which is headquartered in Stuttgart, the capital of the state of Baden-Württemberg.
Aras is a Moslem. More specifically, she is a public adherent of Alevist Islam. This did not, however, stop her from receiving the Novus Ordo version of Holy Communion, which was readily given to her.
The local newspaper, Stuttgarter Zeitung, noticed the incident and duly reported on it. They even got the nature of the Novus Ordo Eucharist as mere bread and wine right:
Things got interesting at the Eucharistic celebration. Still only members of the Roman Catholic Church are invited to receive [the Eucharist]. That is why everyone gazed with great expectations at people [present] who are not part of the Catholic Church. Will they share the bread and wine? President of state parliament Muhterem Aras, a Muslim, received the host.
(Martin Haar, “Muslima Aras empfängt die Kommunion”, Stuttgarter Zeitung, May 26, 2022; our translation.)
From a true Catholic perspective, the sacrilege and scandal committed by administering Holy Communion to a public Muslim is one of colossal proportions.
Although in this particular case only bread was distributed and received on account of the post-Vatican II revisions to the Catholic sacramental rites, which have invalidated most of the sacraments (including ordinations and Holy Mass), the official position of the Vatican II Church is still that the Holy Eucharist is the true and substantial Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity of Jesus Christ — not figuratively but literally (see Novus Ordo Catechism, nn. 1373-1377). Even official Novus Ordo canon law does not allow the administration of the Holy Eucharist to the unbaptized (see Canon 912), although they are much more lenient with regard to heretics, not to mention “Catholics” publicly living in mortal sin.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to find video or even a photo of Aras’ reception of the invalid Novus Ordo cookie. However, so far no one has disputed that the incident took place, and the Novus Ordo news portal kath.net calls it a “Eucharistic provocation”:
At the “German Catholic Congress” on Thursday there took place what appears to be a deliberate “Eucharistic provocation”, which was permitted by the bishops in charge. … During the celebration of Mass with the bishop of Rottenburg-Stuttgart, Gebhard Fürst, the president of state parliament, Muhterem Aras, a Muslim, was among those who received the Holy Eucharist — a blatant sacrilege from the Catholic perspective.
(“Deutscher ‘Katholikentag’-Skandal – Eucharistie für eine Muslima”, kath.net, May 27, 2022; our translation.)
What consequences will this have? As far as “Pope” Francis is concerned, absolutely none. In the message he had sent to the Katholikentag, he made clear once again that for him the Catholic Faith is all about helping those in temporal need. That is ultimately all that matters to him — that which is uniquely Catholic about Catholicism is basically just bells and whistles for him, mere optional “traditions” that express the “richness” of “different ways of coming to God”.
Recall how Francis recently spoke about a Jewish woman receiving (invalid) Communion from his hands once:
I have never refused the Eucharist to anyone…. The only time I’ve ever had an interesting thing happen was when I went to serve Mass in an old age home. I was in the living room, and I said: who wants communion? All the old people raised their hands. One little old lady raised her hand and received communion and said: “Thank you, I’m Jewish”. And I said: “The one I gave you is Jewish too!” [“Anche quello che ti ho dato è ebreo!”]
The full context and source, as well as our commentary on that flippant treatment of what he supposedly believes to be the Incarnate God (when he’s not denying it), can be found here:
Receving Holy Communion — let us ignore here for a moment that what Aras received was in fact only bread, for that is merely accidental to the controversy — without so much as being baptized and professing the true Faith, is not only a grave offense against God but also harms the soul of the recipient.
That much is clear even from Holy Scripture: “Therefore whosoever shall eat this bread, or drink the chalice of the Lord unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and of the blood of the Lord. But let a man prove himself: and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of the chalice. For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh judgment to himself, not discerning the body of the Lord” (1 Cor 11:27-29). It is also confirmed by Sacred Tradition. Quoting St. Jerome on receiving Holy Communion outside the Catholic Church, Pope Pius VIII taught that “he who eats the lamb outside this house will perish as did those during the flood who were not with Noah in the ark” (Encyclical Traditi Humilitati, n. 4).
That people in our day should readily participate in the sacred rite of a religion to which they do not belong, and that, conversely, the religious leaders do not object and even welcome it, is a tragic testimony to the insane Indifferentism of our time. Indifferentism, the idea that it does not matter what religion one embraces, is the only “dogma” to which Western society clings anymore.
For contemporary man, who considers himself oh-so enlightened, all religion is a matter of mere opinion anyway; what “really matters” is how we relate to other human beings. That is essentially also the idea of “Pope” Francis. The heresy underlying such an absurd and thoroughly anti-Catholic idea is known as Modernism.
As the 19th-century Fr. Michael Müller once wrote: “It is impious to say, ‘I respect every religion.’ This is as much as to say: I respect the devil as much as God, vice as much as virtue, falsehood as much as truth, dishonesty as much as honesty, Hell as much as Heaven” (The Church and Her Enemies, p. 287).
By reducing itself, especially in Germany, to little more than a woke humanitarian organization with bad liturgy, the Vatican II Church will eventually collapse under the weight of its own irrelevance as a religious institution.
May God hasten the day.
