Privacy Policy

Novus Ordo Watch is operated by Interregnum Foundation, Inc., an Ohio 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. In this policy, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to Interregnum Foundation, Inc.

We want you to understand what happens to your information when you read novusordowatch.org, subscribe to our emails, leave a Disqus comment, contact us, or support our apostolate. This policy explains what we collect, why we use it, which outside services are involved, and how to contact us about your information.

Personal information includes familiar things such as your name and email address. It can also include technical information, such as an IP address or browser identifier, when that information can be linked to a person.

You can contact us through our contact form. Our postal address is listed at the end of this policy. Both this page and the contact page are accessible without accepting optional cookies.

When you browse our website

Your browser sends technical information when it requests a webpage or an embedded image, video, or audio player. This can include your IP address, the page requested, the referring page, browser and operating-system information, and the time of the request. An IP address can indicate an approximate location, but it does not necessarily reveal your name or precise physical location.

Our hosting and security providers handle connection information to deliver pages, protect the website, and diagnose problems. Their systems may keep technical logs. This activity is separate from subscribing to an email list or sending us a message.

We use Cloudflare analytics, WordPress.com/Jetpack statistics, and our own installation of Umami to understand how the site is used and improve its operation. Reports can include pages visited, referral sources, visit times, approximate locations, and browser or device information.

Umami distinguishes visits using hashed identifiers derived from technical connection information, rather than identifying visitors by name or email address. These identifiers help organize page activity into discernible sessions. Our Umami installation is hosted at a Hetzner datacenter in Ashburn, Virginia, and is blocked until you accept the website’s consent notice.

We do not personalize our website’s content according to a profile of you. Outside platforms embedded in our pages may have their own personalization and tracking practices, described below.

When you contact us

Our contact form asks for your name, email address, a subject, and your message. We use what you send to read your inquiry, respond when appropriate, and handle related correspondence.

Messages are delivered to our email account, currently hosted by iPage (Network Solutions).

Please include only the personal details you wish us to receive. We do not ask you to state your religious affiliation, health information, or other sensitive personal details. If you voluntarily include such information in a message, it forms part of the correspondence we receive and retain. We do not separately categorize you by those details.

Email subscriptions

We collect your name and email address when you subscribe. We use two mailing services:

  • Mailchimp: new-post notifications, possibly also newsletters and fundraising appeals.
  • MailerLite: notifications of new podcast episodes.

Making a donation does not automatically subscribe you to either list.

Open and click reports are enabled in both services. These reports can be associated with your subscriber record. They help us understand whether our messages reach readers and which material interests them. Website cookie controls do not control tracking inside your email application.

You can unsubscribe using the link in an email or ask us through the contact form. Unsubscribing will immediately cause your email address to be excluded from any future mailings; however, it does not necessarily trigger permanent deletion of your subscriber record from the relevant mailing service. If you subscribe to both services, unsubscribe from each or ask us to remove you from both. This does not erase separate correspondence or donation records that must be retained for tax purposes.

Disqus comments and outside accounts

We do not offer visitor accounts on our own website. Comments are provided through Disqus. Disqus stores the comments and related account information; we do not copy them into WordPress or another comment database.

A comment is public. Its text, your displayed name, and other profile information made visible by Disqus can be read by other people. Avoid putting private information into a public comment. Disqus also collects technical and usage information when its embedded service loads, even if you do not leave a comment.

Disqus describes advertising and data-sharing activities in its own privacy policy. The absence of a visible advertisement does not necessarily mean that its tracking is inactive. To manage your Disqus account or request deletion of information it controls independently, use Disqus’s account settings and privacy-request channels.

If you sign in to SoundCloud, YouTube, or another outside platform through embedded content, that account belongs to the outside platform, and we do not receive any information associated with that account. The provider may be able to associate your activity with an existing account you have with them.

Donations

Online donations are completed through Raisely or PayPal outside our website. Stripe technology is also used in our donation integration. Payment and fraud-prevention components can handle technical information when they load, as well as transaction information when you make a donation.

The donor information available to us includes your name, email address, mailing address, and donation history. We use it to administer donations, communicate about them, and maintain tax and accounting records. We do not receive your card number, banking credentials, or payment-account password from the donation platforms.

We do not publish donor identities or sell, rent, trade, or provide donor lists to advertisers. Donation records may need to be retained even after you request deletion of other information. The payment platforms have their own privacy policies and responsibilities for the information they collect and retain.

Cookies, browser storage, and tracking

Cookies are small pieces of information stored by your browser. Websites can also store information using local storage, session storage, and browser databases such as IndexedDB. Tracking pixels send requests that can report a page visit or another interaction. A technology does not need to be a cookie to collect information about your visit.

The technologies used on our site and within embedded services serve several purposes:

  • Operation and security: delivering content, detecting abusive traffic, supporting payment security, and remembering the response to our cookie consent notice.
  • Comments and media: displaying outside content, maintaining a provider’s login state, and remembering player or comment settings.
  • Statistics: measuring visits and interactions with pages, emails, comments, and media.
  • Outside providers’ advertising and measurement: recognizing browsers, measuring advertisements, or connecting activity across sites that use their services.

We do not run our own advertising campaigns, nor do we supply our email lists to advertising platforms. Nevertheless, embedded services can bring their own advertising and analytics technology onto a page.

Our consent notice

We use Cookiebot, provided by Usercentrics, to display our notice and hold back optional tracking and embedded components until you press “Okay.” Necessary website delivery, security, and consent functions may operate before that choice. Cookiebot records the response and uses a browser cookie to remember it.

Our current notice offers a single acceptance choice covering the optional technologies described here. It does not offer separate choices by purpose or a reject button, and the notice remains until you accept. You can still read this policy and use our contact form without accepting.

If you wish to withdraw a previously given acceptance, contact us through that form. To remove the saved acceptance in your browser, close any open pages from our site and delete this site’s cookies and site data. When you return, do not press “Okay” if you do not wish to accept again. You may also need to clear data belonging to the embedded providers. Browser settings can block cookies or other tracking, although this may prevent comments, media, or other features from working.

Clearing browser data does not delete information already received by us or an outside provider. Requests concerning stored information are explained in this document under the heading Your information and privacy requests.

How long browser data remains

Some browser data lasts for a single session. Other items have an expiry date or remain until removed, although browser restrictions can shorten them, and providers can change their settings. Some local-storage and IndexedDB entries have no automatic expiry. Browser-storage lifetimes are also separate from the period for which a provider keeps information on its servers.

Embedded images, audio, video, and other content

An embed displays another provider’s content within our page. Once it loads, your browser connects to that provider. This can disclose to that provider your IP address, browser information, the page containing the embed, and your interactions with the content. Some collection can happen as soon as the embed loads, before you press play or interact with it.

Providers may use cookies and other browser storage, recognize an account you are already signed into, and use their own analytics, advertising, security, or measurement partners. Their processing may extend beyond delivering the particular image, comment, or player. In doing so, these platforms are not acting on our behalf. We use these platforms solely for content delivery.

Our current embedded services include the following. Links lead to the providers’ privacy policy information where available:

Embedded services can load further services in turn. Our scan found, for example, Google advertising technology within Getty Images and Wall Street Journal embeds, Google Analytics within Omroep Brabant’s player, Mixpanel within VideoSquirrel, Piano Analytics within ZDF’s player, and New Relic monitoring within Audioboom. Their presence within an embed does not mean that we operate those analytics or advertising accounts. Ordinary outbound links also take you to sites with their own privacy practices. This policy describes our handling of information; it does not replace another provider’s policy or determine how that provider handles an independent account.

Services that help us operate

We use outside providers for hosting, communication, subscriptions, consent management, statistics, and donations. Information is made available to them as needed for those services. Their own roles and practices depend on the service involved:

We do not sell, rent, or exchange our subscriber or donor lists, or supply those lists to advertising platforms. The service-provider processing and embedded-platform collection described in this policy still occur. We may also disclose information when required by law or valid legal process.

Where information is kept and how long we keep it

Our website and database are hosted in the United States through WP Engine. Our Umami installation is hosted in Ashburn, Virginia. Other providers operate internationally and may handle information in additional countries, whose laws may differ from those where you live. Their privacy policies describe their international processing and transfer arrangements. You can ask us about transfers affecting information we control through our contact form.

  • Correspondence: we do not currently apply a fixed automatic deletion period to correspondence in our Google email account. It may be retained indefinitely unless you request deletion, subject to any legal recordkeeping obligation.
  • Email subscriptions: subscriber records are kept while you remain subscribed and may or may not be permanently deleted from the relevant mailing service when you unsubscribe.
  • Donations: we retain the records needed for tax and accounting purposes for as long as those obligations require.
  • Umami analytics backups: these are retained indefinitely because they do not contain personally identifying information.
  • Browser data and outside platforms: browser expiry settings and each provider’s own retention rules apply. Deleting your data with one service does not automatically delete it with another.

A deletion request concerns information we can identify as yours and control. We are unable to associate a hashed analytics session with a particular person. Where information must be kept to meet a legal obligation, such as a tax-record requirement, we will explain that limitation when responding to your request.

We use our hosting and service providers’ security protections to support the website and our communications. No internet service or storage system can promise absolute security. If an incident requires notification under applicable law, we will provide the required notice.

Your information and privacy requests

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, request a correction, or request deletion through our contact form. Please describe your request and identify the relevant correspondence, subscription, or donation so that we can locate the records. We may need to verify your identity before releasing or changing personal information.

Your legal rights depend on where you live and which laws apply to our processing. Where applicable, they may include the right to:

  • Know whether we process your information, obtain access to it, and receive information about its use and recipients.
  • Correct inaccurate information or request deletion.
  • Receive a portable copy of information where the law provides that right.
  • Object to certain uses or request a restriction on processing.
  • Withdraw consent for processing that depends on it, without changing the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
  • Complain to the relevant privacy regulator or appeal a response where applicable law provides an appeal right.

We will respond to requests concerning information we control within the period required by applicable law. If we cannot fulfill a request, we will explain the reason. You can also use the contact form to ask us to reconsider a response. We do not penalize people for exercising applicable privacy rights.

Where an outside service stores information on our behalf, we will handle the request relating to our records and involve that provider as needed. For an independent Disqus, SoundCloud, payment-platform, or other outside account, contact that provider through the channels in its privacy policy. Our deletion of our own records does not close those accounts or erase records that those providers control independently.

We request acceptance before enabling optional website tracking. Where applicable law requires a legal basis for our other processing, our legitimate interests include answering correspondence and operating and protecting the website; legal obligations also require us to maintain certain donation records. The consent process for optional website technologies is described in this document under the heading Cookies, browser storage, and tracking.

Children

Our website and subscriptions are not directed to children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, please use our contact form so that we can address the matter. Outside platforms have their own age requirements, which may differ from ours.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services or practices change. We will update the effective date and record revisions below. Where applicable law requires additional notice or a new consent, we will provide it. Continuing to visit the site does not, by itself, give consent to a new use that requires your permission.
