Is Sedevacantism “Pope-Sifting”?

Pope or Nope?

Bp. Donald Sanborn replies to a Common Objection

[from Bp. Sanborn’s In Veritate Blog]

Pope-Sifting

An objection has been made to my recent response to Bishop Williamson. It is an objection frequently made against sedevacantists. It objects that sedevacantists cannot criticize the SSPX for sifting the magisterium, since they themselves are sifting popes. By finding a discrepancy between pre-Vatican II magisterium and post-Vatican II magisterium, sedevacantists merely depose popes whom they find wanting in orthodoxy. But they have no authority to do so. So while sedevacantists object to “magisterium-sifting,” they themselves are involved in “pope-sifting,” which is the same thing.

Dead on Arrival:
The Remnant
‘s New Strategy on “Pope” Francis

The Remnant Underground: “Pope Francis and the Three Amigos”

Being a Semi-Traditionalist is pretty difficult these days: You have to somehow try to reconcile authentic, traditional Catholic teaching with the idea that the world’s most notorious Modernist, Jorge Bergoglio, is the Pope of the Catholic Church. Squaring the circle will prove easier than this, so it is not surprising that all the various attempts at making Francis into a Catholic cannot but end in failure. The problem is that so much damage is being done in the process, damage to Catholic truth and to a proper understanding of Catholic teaching on the Pope and the Church.… READ MORE

The National [Non-]Catholic Reporter blogs about Novus Ordo Watch

The American Über-Modernist newspaper that deceptively calls itself the National Catholic Reporter has published a blog post in which the author, Robert McClory, mentions Novus Ordo Watch and Sedevacantism.

Entitled “Pope Francis and His Really Hostile Critics”, McClory correctly notes that we identify Francis “as a heretic [and] deceiver.” In particular, he takes issue with our post of November 3, 2013, in which we accuse Antipope Francis of heresy for saying that today’s Jews are the Chosen People of God and that the Old Covenant is still valid.… READ MORE

CAUTION! Francis speaks!

HERESY:
Francis says Faith without Works “Is Not [True] Faith”

When a man who does not possess true Faith presumes to lecture the world on what constitutes true Faith, it is not exactly surprising that he should get it wrong. In his “stream of consciousness” homily of Feb. 21, 2014, at the daily Novus Ordo worship service at the Vatican guest house, “Pope” Francis uttered a verbatim denial of Catholic dogma as defined by the Council of Trent in the 16th century.

The Argentinian antipope said: “A faith that does not bear fruit in works is not faith” (source).

Bergoglio’s joy stopper…

Francis: “Studying Fundamental Theology is One of the Most Boring Things on Earth”

Well this isn’t exactly surprising: Francis doesn’t like studying Fundamental Theology. He finds it incredibly boring.

The Rev. Michael Rogers, a blogging Jesuit in Rome, sent out a tweet on Feb. 17, 2014, in which he relates what “Pope Francis” told him in person: “Studying fundamental theology is one of the most boring things on earth.”

Here is a copy of the tweet:

Fundamental Theology is the branch of Sacred Theology that deals with the theological method, apologetics, and ecclesiology.… READ MORE

Ratzinger writes Letter to Hans Küng

Benedict XVI delights in “Great Agreement of Views” with Francis

UPDATE 2/26/14: Benedict Confirms Accuracy of Hans Kung Testimony (click here)

Bad news for Resignationists and all those who believe that “Pope Emeritus” Benedict XVI is gravely at odds with his offbeat successor, Jorge Bergoglio. The Italian newspaper La Repubblica reports that in a Jan. 24, 2014 letter Joseph Ratzinger wrote to his former colleague and collaborator Hans Kung, he expressed his satisfaction to be united to “Pope” Francis not only by a “cordial friendship” but also — and this is clearly much more important — by a shared concurrence of points-of-view:

“I am grateful to be joined to Pope Francis by a great agreement of views and a cordial friendship”, the retired Benedict wrote to arch-apostate Hans Kung, who basically denies every Catholic dogma in the book, including that of the Most Holy Trinity, and who announced in 2013 that he is considering committing suicide as he is now advanced in years and suffers from Parkinson’s Disease and doesn’t really see the point of sticking around.… READ MORE

Francis: Traditional Latin Mass just a “Fad” that “doesn’t need much Attention”

It’s just a “fad”, folks…

By way of the Rorate Caeli blog, news is reaching us today of something the “Holy Father” reportedly said Feb. 14, 2014, in an audience with the Novus Ordo bishops of the Czech Republic. The “Archbishop” of Olomouc, Mr. Jan Graubner, relates the following:

When we were discussing those who are fond of the ancient liturgy and wish to return to it, it was evident that the Pope speaks with great affection, attention, and sensitivity for all in order not to hurt anyone.

For being too critical of Francis…

Radio Maria Fires Roberto de Mattei

The “culture of dialogue and encounter” promoted by Antipope Francis doesn’t apply to everyone, apparently. After ridding themselves of Mario Palmaro and Alessandro Gnocchi in 2013Radio Maria has now also fired the Novus Ordo historian Prof. Roberto de Mattei, who hosted a monthly show for the “Catholic” Italian radio network.

In a letter that was very polite and gracious in tone, Radio Maria‘s program director “Fr.” Livio Fanzaga tells Prof. de Mattei that he can no longer in good conscience retain him as a show host for as long as he criticizes and does not support Francis’ “pastoral program”, and that for this reason his show has been canceled.… READ MORE

Resignationism hitting the mainstream…

Italian Journalist Antonio Socci:
Ratzinger Resignation “May Not Be Valid”

Author and Journalist Antonio Socci

One year after Benedict XVI’s historic announcement of his impending resignation from the “papacy”, well-respected Italian journalist and author Antonio Socci reflects on what led Fr. Joseph Ratzinger to give up his claim to the papal office on February 28, 2013.

Writing for the Italian daily Libero on Feb. 12, 2014, Socci says that details about the resignation have emerged that may render it invalid under church law. (Both Novus Ordo and traditional Catholic canon law state that, among other possible reasons, resignation obtained through fear unjustly inflicted is invalid; see Novus Ordo Canon 188Catholic Canon 185.)… READ MORE

The Vicar of Snark

Francis has definitely changed the tone in the Vatican…

[From The Week, U.S. Edition]

Pope Francis, Insult Comic

Hailed for striking a gentler tone, the pope is actually the vicar of snark

by Michael Brendan Dougherty

The pope’s favorite American prelate, Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston, opined this week on the character of the church’s biggest celebrity. According to O’Malley, Pope Francis isn’t about to launch a revolution in the church, he’s just changing the tone.

O’Malley said the shift in emphasis is necessary because the church has been in the past “too strident, maybe too repetitious.”

Cesar Scicchitano is the name of a 49-year-old Argentinian Novus Ordo priest who is the frontman of the heavy-metal band Los Pecadores (“The Sinners”). While such is by no means an unusual occurrence in Novus Ordo Land, this one comes with an added twist: “Father” Cesar’s undertaking has the explicit blessing of Jorge Bergoglio, the man otherwise known as “Pope Francis.” And that’s just the beginning.

According to a report published by the The China Post, Scicchitano has been friends with Francis for nearly twenty years.… READ MORE

A Flip for every Flop…

Two-Faced Francis:
The Contradictions of Jorge Bergoglio

Francis is clearly the most blatant Modernist of all the Novus Ordo Antipopes. He perfectly embodies the spirit of Vatican II and is the veritable incarnation, as it were, of the conciliar document Gaudium Et Spes. Like the Modernists and other innovators condemned by the Church, his chief characteristics include audacity and love of novelty. The following two passages taken from magisterial documents are very applicable to the entire frame of mind advanced by the Second Vatican Council and embodied fully by Jorge Bergoglio:

As for the rest, We greatly deplore the fact that, where the ravings of human reason extend, there is somebody who studies new things and strives to know more than is necessary, against the advice of the apostle.

Vatican Lauds ‘SuperFrank’!

The Associated Press reported on Jan. 28, 2014:

It wasn’t enough that Pope Francis was named Time magazine’s Person of the Year – or that he fronted this week’s Rolling Stone magazine. Now there’s SuperPope graffiti sprouting up around the Vatican.

The white caped crusader appeared on a wall just off Borgo Pio, a tiny cobble-stoned street near St Peter’s Square. In typical superhero fashion, Francis’ right fist is thrust in the air, leading him in flight, while his left clutches his black satchel. “Valores,” or values in Spanish, is written across it.

Francis’ Peace Doves get Attacked

Embed from Getty Images

[Vatican City, Jan. 26, 2014] The ‘Francis Show’ suffered a slight setback today as the Argentinian Antipope called for peace in the Ukraine at his Sunday Angelus address. After the traditional white peace doves were released (incidentally, by two children standing at Francis’ side), both of them were attacked by a seagull and a crow, right there in front of the Apostolic Palace in the Vatican. If the doves were to be a symbol of peace, perhaps this attack by the other birds has symbolic value also.… READ MORE
