Year after year…
Ecumenical Carnival Madness in German ‘Catholic’ Church

It’s carnival season, and in Germany, that means it’s time for the annual “Fools’ Masses” or at least “Fools’ Liturgies”. Oftentimes these absurdities come in an ecumenical package, meaning it’s Novus Ordo adherents (‘Catholics’) and Lutherans celebrating together.
A video recently appeared on Instagram that shows what took place on Saturday evening, Feb. 7, 2026, in the ‘Catholic’ Church of Mary’s Assumption (Mariä Himmelfahrt) in the little town of Höchstädt, part of the diocese of Augsburg. It was released by the official Instagram account of the parish community, so we can be certain it’s genuine.
Here it is (be sure to unmute the clip so you can hear the singing and noise):

Of course the church building in which this atrocity took place is a gorgeous traditional Catholic one, constructed in the 15th century. For something so contemptuous, they naturally didn’t want to pick one of their beloved brutalist beauties or modern spaceship churches — perhaps because there’s nothing to profane there.
Some may say that, compared to other ‘Catholic’ carnival church services that can be found in central Europe, what we see here is relatively subdued and almost decent; but this only shows how much we’ve become accustomed to outrageous antics in church. Remember the ‘Ecumenical Fools’ Mass’ in Switzerland two years ago? They served alcoholic drinks!
One is inevitably reminded of Our Lord’s warning: “It is written: My house is the house of prayer. But you have made it a den of thieves” (Lk 19:46). And likewise of the Psalmist: “Lift up thy hands against their pride unto the end; see what things the enemy hath done wickedly in the sanctuary” (Ps 73:3).
In any case, there wasn’t just silly dancing and singing at this Feb. 7 pseudo-liturgy at Assumption Church. There was also, of course, a sermon of sorts:
The Novus Ordo presbyter (left) and the Protestant pastor preach a ‘humorous’ sermon from the pulpit…
The above photo shows the ‘Catholic priest’, the Irreverend Daniel Ertl, along with the local Lutheran pastor, Wolfram Schrimpf, performing (“preaching”) a so-called “carnival sermon” (Büttenpredigt).
The picture is a cropped and brightened version of the original found on the official web site of the parish community, which also includes the following blurb about what went down:
As every year, Catholics and Protestants celebrated together with the Schlossfinken [the local carnival club] on the evening before the Höchstädt Carnival Parade with a joint church service. Prayers were offered for good weather and a safe parade. Once again, the two pastors didn’t miss the chance to poke fun at global and local politicians in their carnival sermon. There was plenty of entertainment, proving that there is room for laughter and joy in the church!
Thank you to our senior altar servers for organizing and rehearsing the performance! Thanks also to the children’s and youth choir for the musical accompaniment and to Jonas for playing the organ!

They have made it all into a big joke, but God isn’t laughing: “Be not deceived, God is not mocked” (Gal 6:7).
The good news is: These antics will soon be no more because the Novus Ordo Sect in the Land of Luther is collapsing rapidly.
In fact, this is evident even just from the video clip above. Notice that they could not fill the pews, even though (1) this was the once-a-year ‘fun liturgy’ that is supposed to appeal even to non-church goers; (2) it was held on a convenient Saturday evening rather than on a Sunday morning; (3) it was a joint service of both ‘Catholics’ and Lutherans; (4) they had dozens of members of the local (secular) carnival club attending; and (5) it was the only fools’ liturgy in the entire parish cluster, which comprises another six ‘Catholic’ churches (they are a total of seven churches all making up a single parish, basically).
Ladies and gentlemen, they are finished; they are so finished! When even the overtly secular and profane party service that only takes place once a year can’t fill the pews, the end cannot be far off. One fine day in the not-too-distant future, the whole Counterfeit Church in Germany will come crashing down.
Can’t happen soon enough.
