Fr. Gabriel Lavery, CMRI
Sedevacantist Priest interviewed on Public Radio to explain why Francis is not the Pope (FULL AUDIO)
Explaining to a secular audience why the individual everywhere known as “Pope Francis” is not in fact the Pope of the Catholic Church but merely the head of an apostate Modernist sect, is no easy task. Nevertheless, Fr. Gabriel Lavery of the sedevacantist Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen (Congregatio Mariae Reginae Immaculatae or CMRI), pictured above, gave it his best shot last month.
On Aug. 31, 2021, Father was interviewed live on WOSU, a public radio station in Ohio, by host Ann Fisher for an episode of her weekday program All Sides with Ann Fisher. After the conversation with Fr. Gabriel, Fisher also interviewed the “other sides”, represented by Dr. Leo Madden and Michael Sean Winters, respectively.

The background to this whole conversation is that Fr. Gabriel had attracted attention to the sedevacantist position when he publicly spoke before a committee of the Ohio State House regarding a pending bill about vaccine mandates. When a committee member asked him how he, a Catholic priest, squared what he was saying with remarks made by “Pope Francis”, Father responded that he does not believe the man to be the Pope, and he briefly explained why.
Not only did this raise eyebrows, it also piqued the curiosity of a few individuals, such as Ann Fisher; hence the Aug. 31 radio episode on “American Catholicism”.
Fisher is to be commended for her professionalism and her genuine lack of bias on such an unusual topic (for secular radio). She allowed Father to speak freely and truly attempted to understand the sedevacantist position.
Long-time readers of this blog may recall that we have brought up Fr. Lavery in the past. In 2011, he gave an engrossing and most insightful lecture about the Ordinary Magisterium of the Pope at the CMRI’s annual Fatima Conference. The audio can be downloaded/streamed at the following link:

We hope all our readers will listen to this very rewarding audio, which is made available free of charge, courtesy of the CMRI and Traditional Catholic Sermons. We also have a blog post on the subject that is a great supplement to Father’s lecture:
Fr. Gabriel is pastor of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Church in Sulphur Springs, Ohio. He was ordained a priest on May 31, 2003, by Bp. Mark Pivarunas in Omaha, Nebraska.
