Conscience, Sin, and a “New Paradigm”:
Blase Cupich unloads Bergoglian Bilge at Cambridge
The Novus Ordo Sect’s Archlayman of Chicago, “Cardinal” Blase Cupich, delivered a landmark speech on Francis’ exhortation Amoris Laetitia this past February 9 at the so-called Von Hügel Institute for Critical Catholic Inquiry of St. Edmund’s College at the University of Cambridge, England. Entitled “Pope Francis’ Revolution of Mercy: Amoris Laetitia as a New Paradigm of Catholicity”, Cupich’s lecture was riddled with errors and even contained heresy and blasphemy.
How to summarize the most salient point in Cupich’s talk? Once we remove from it the veil of academic-sounding jargon and the pretense of Catholic theology, we see that what the Modernist Cupich is essentially arguing is that with Amoris Laetitia the Catholic Church has entered a paradigm shift in which situation ethics replaces traditional Catholic morality. This is justified, according to the pretend-cardinal, on the grounds that God supposedly speaks through the concrete and complex situations of families today, in whom and to whom He manifests that it is His will that they no longer adhere to inflexible moral rules. Instead, using their consciences each family now gets to “discern” nothing less than what the “voice of God” has to say to its very own particular situation. (Just what happens when one partner or spouse discerns in his “voice of God”-equipped conscience the opposite of the other, Mr. Cupich does not address. Bummer!) In other words: The problem of people living in sin is solved simply by declaring that sin is no longer sin, or, in any case, that people can now remain in sin if they have “discerned” that this is God’s will for them.
No, this is no exaggeration or misrepresentation. This is the blasphemous and heretical claptrap “Cardinal” Cupich presented as Catholic theology this past Friday. The only thing we can agree with him on is that his position is compatible with and faithful to Amoris Laetitia.
The full text of the heretical lecture has been made available at Vatican Insider:
The Von Hugel Institute has released the video of the full lecture with questions and answers at the end:
Instead of providing a written commentary on Cupich’s dangerous poppycock, we have produced a short podcast that exposes and dismantles some of the most egregious errors found in the speech. You can listen below, free of charge:
The Church has condemned situation ethics before and exposed and refuted its alluring sophistry. The following magisterial documents are particularly helpful in this regard:
- Pope Pius XII, Radio Message “La Famiglia” (1952)
- Pope Pius XII, Address “Soyez Les Bienvenues” (1952)
- Pope Pius XII, Holy Office Instruction “Contra Doctrinam” (1956)
Cupich’s lecture has also been covered by other web sites, of course, and there have been some developments since. Here is a selection of relevant links:

By the way: “Cardinal” Cupich has announced that there will be three so-called New Momentum Conferences on Amoris Laetitia for American “bishops”, apparently to ensure that this false new morality is spread far and wide in the United States. These conferences will be held at such well-known bastions of Catholic orthodoxy as Boston College, the University of Notre Dame, and Santa Clara University, according to a report from Catholic News Agency.
This is not surprising because although his name may lead one to suspect otherwise, Cupich really isn’t stupid. He knows that with Amoris Laetitia as a “magisterial” document and the “Pope” backing it up, the False Novus Ordo Gospel has momentum like never before. Unfortunately, this is the kind of momentum that will only lead him and countless others into the deepest pits of hell — where people will experience the ultimate complex and concrete situation.
