Bergoglio takes it easy…
“Slight Indisposition”: Francis cancels Liturgy as Coronavirus Outbreak hits Italy
As Italy is hit with an outbreak of the Coronavirus, secular news sites are showing concern for “Pope” Francis after he canceled a major commitment on his calendar today due to a “slight indisposition”, as it was called by Vatican Press Office director Matteo Bruni.
The Novus Ordo site Zenit reports:
“This morning,” [Bruni’s] statement said, “the Holy Father did not go to the Lateran for the penitential liturgy with the Roman clergy.”
“Due to a slight indisposition,” it concluded, “he preferred to remain in the rooms close to Santa Marta; the other commitments proceed regularly.”
He also told ZENIT English that the Holy Father not only received, as planned, the ‘Global Climate Change’ group this morning in the Vatican, but also went ahead with all his private audiences too.

Francis is known for being a trooper — he is rarely sick and never takes vacations — and this despite the fact that he only has one fully-functioning lung.
The smutty (hence no link) British Daily Mail headlines: “Illness forces the Pope to cancel an event in Rome a day after showing solidarity with coronavirus sufferers and shaking hands with congregation at weekly audience.” The UK’s Sun, also on the smutty side, writes: “Pope Francis, 83, cancels event as he’s taken ill amid Italy coronavirus crisis.”
Here in the United States, the Drudge Report features a picture of Francis blowing his nose at yesterday’s Ash Wednesday liturgy, while the New York Post headlines: “Pope Francis sick a day after supporting coronavirus sufferers.”
The Daily Mail notes that Francis may have caught something yesterday as he mingled with his adoring fans:
It comes a day after he kissed heads and touched faces as he met with crowds in St Peter’s Square, saying he had solidarity with those suffering from coronavirus. Italy is currently in the grips of a coronavirus outbreak that has seen towns in the north placed on lockdown and travellers from the region spread the infection to previously unaffected areas of Europe.
The Novus Ordo video news site Rome Reports has a similar take:
There is really no evidence whatsoever that Francis’ indisposition has anything to do with the Coronavirus; at the same time this cannot be ruled out, either.
Whatever it may be, and however serious it might become, let us pray that it will bring Jorge Bergoglio finally to his senses. Our Lord Jesus Christ died for him too, and he will suffer in hell for all eternity if, in whatever time God has still allotted to him on this earth, he does not finally renounce his heresies and repent of his many blasphemies and other wicked deeds.
“As I live, saith the Lord God, I desire not the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from his way, and live” (Ez 33:11).
“And there came down fire from God out of heaven, and devoured them; and the devil, who seduced them, was cast into the pool of fire and brimstone, where both the beast and the false prophet shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.” (Apoc 20:9-10).
