Official SSPX Hits Back At Bp. Fellay Adversaries:

“The Pseudo-Anti-Liberal Illusion”

For some time now, certain persons have been publishing the most grievous accusations against the superiors of the SSPX to an almost obsessive degree without realising that they themselves have lost contact with reality; they have fallen into errors which I will call “pseudo-anti-liberal”, because they pretend to be anti-liberal, though they themselves fall into the very defect they condemn, as wrote St Paul: “Wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou dost the same things which thou judgest” (Rom. 2:1).

We are publishing the above-linked post by Fr. Francois Laisney, SSPX, merely for informational reasons. The article is newsworthy because it is the latest salvo in the conflict that has been raging within the Society of St. Pius X between those who are favorable to an agreement with the Vatican for eventual regularization and those who strongly oppose such an accord, some of whom have left (or were expelled by) the SSPX and now adhere to the “Strict-Observance SSPX”.

The irony is that neither of the two sides is correct, as both sides erroneously recognize the Vatican II hierarchy in Rome and throughout the world as the legitimate Roman Catholic hierarchy. To attempt to be a Roman Catholic, that is, to adhere to the truths of the Faith while at the same time attempting to recognize the modernist buffoons in the Vatican as the true shepherds of the Catholic Church is an exercise in futility. To an extent, both sides are right – and both are wrong. A Catholic must do both: submit to the legitimate ecclesiastical superiors (especially the Holy See) and believe everything that the Holy See promulgates on faith and morals, on the one hand; and also, at the same time, refuse heresy on the other, because heresy is a grave poison for the soul which expels one from membership in the Church and cuts one off from the true Faith and the Apostolic See.

So, it is not either/or; both things are necessary and non-negotiable. And of course this is possible only because the true Church cannot lead the Catholic faithful astray – that’s the whole point of God having established His Church to begin with, “that henceforth we be no more children tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine by the wickedness of men, by cunning craftiness, by which they lie in wait to deceive” (Eph 4:14). Pope Pius IX, echoing the scriptural testimony that the Church is the “pillar and ground of the of truth” (see 1 Tim 3:15), called the Holy See “the citadel and bulwark of the Catholic Faith” (Encyclical Qui Nuper, par. 3 [1859]).

The First Vatican Council summarized the matter thus:

The first condition of salvation is to maintain the rule of the true faith. And since that saying of our Lord Jesus Christ, You are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my Church, cannot fail of its effect, the words spoken are confirmed by their consequences. For in the Apostolic See the Catholic religion has always been preserved unblemished, and sacred doctrine been held in honor. Since it is our earnest desire to be in no way separated from this faith and doctrine, we hope that we may deserve to remain in that one communion which the Apostolic See preaches, for in it is the whole and true strength of the Christian religion.

So, the “official” SSPX is entirely right in seeking full union with the (person they think is the) Roman Pontiff, whereas the renegades are entirely right in saying that the modernist Vatican doesn’t have the Faith, so seeking union with it would be absurd and have dire consequences. The SSPX is in turmoil because its theology tries to reconcile both of these positions. It is impossible: You are either in union with the (bogus) ‘Holy See’ and thus forced to be a heretic – or you retain the Catholic Faith apart from the Unholy See and are thus forced to be a schismatic. Both of these scenarios are self-contradictory, and neither of them is an acceptable Roman Catholic position.

Only Sedevacantism can solve the conundrum: The only way to keep from embracing heresy and from becoming a schismatic is to realize that these charlatans in Rome are not members of the Roman Catholic Church, and their religious institution is not the Roman Catholic Church. There is no alternative.
