Why make it beautiful when you can make it ugly?

The German Archdiocese of Munich and Freising, currently headed by “Cardinal” Reinhard Marx, is home to “God’s Ski Jump” as well as “Monster Church”. It is also home to many other Novus Ordo architectural crimes.

Today we would like to introduce you to the “Roman Catholic” parish of Sankt Nikolaus (St. Nicholas) in the small town of Neuried, outside of Munich. It has a beautiful old little village church (Dorfkirche) as well as a hideous modern parochial center. The latter, which includes the official parish church (Pfarrkirche), is a not-so-edifying edifice that was built in 2006 and completed two years later, when it was “consecrated” by Mr. Marx. It really emphasizes the brutal in Brutalism.

In this post, we will dare take a look at this architectural monstrosity that the town’s Novus Ordo souls must endure. Please proceed with caution — you will not be able to “un-see” any of what you are about to witness.

First, let’s take a look at the outside of the building:

For a library, this would be pretty disappointing. For a church… oh well.

Next, we advance to the inside. Behold the gathering space:

Stunning, huh? As you are still awestruck by the experience, please take note of the bizarre globe that appears to be hovering over the “altar”. We’ll be returning to that in just a minute.

Of course we’ve saved the best worst for last. In case you were wondering what the “tabernacle” looks like, well, that is the “globe” we were referencing earlier. It functions as a kind of cocoon that opens up to reveal the actual tabernacle, as seen here:

If this is the most sacred space in the entire building, one shudders to imagine what the profane spaces must look like.

We will just leave it at that.

By the way: “Cardinal” Marx is on record asserting that it is impossible for human beings to offend God. In 2012, the obese Modernist declared: “It is impossible to insult [offend] God” (“Gott kann man gar nicht beleidigen”).

Clearly, that is the principle that guides churches like St. Nicholas in Neuried.
