So Bergoglio’s church has a ‘customs office’ after all…

Vatican Puts ‘Abp.’ Carlo Maria Viganò on Trial for Schism

[UPDATE 22-JUN-2024 15:54 UTC: ‘Abp.’ Viganò releases statement making clear he DID NOT and WILL NOT present himself to the DDF for his schism trial.]

[UPDATE 21-JUN-2024 20:22 UTC: Gerard O’Connell retracts prior claim “that Archbishop Viganó presented himself this afternoon, June 20, and deposited his written defense….”, stating on June 21: “Archbishop Viganó did not present himself to the Vatican court on June 20, as this report initially stated.”]

ORIGINAL POST:

The internet is on fire: The Vatican has begun proceedings against 83-year-old ‘Archbishop’ Carlo Maria Viganò for the canonical crime of schism.

Viganò was the Vatican’s nuncio to the United States of America from 2011 until 2016, when he retired. He fell out of favor with Rome in 2018, when he publicly accused ‘Pope’ Francis of having had full knowledge of the sexual abuse of then-‘Cardinal’ Theodore McCarrick and helping to cover it up. Vigano then went into hiding, and his whereabouts have not been disclosed. He has since become one of Francis’ most outspoken critics.

Over the years, Vigano gradually began questioning the legitimacy not only of Francis (Jorge Bergoglio) but also of the Second Vatican Council (1962-65). Now the Vatican has had enough and started proceedings against him.

As Vigano himself first disclosed today on his Twitter/X account, he received a decree from the ‘Holy See’ by email, ordering him to appear in Rome before a tribunal of the so-called Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith (DDF), currently under the leadership of the scandalous ‘Cardinal’ Victor Manuel Fernandez, to receive the charges against him. The date and time for his appearance was set as June 20, 2024, at 3:30 pm local time (that is, today).

The decree, written in Italian and dated June 11, 2024, bears the Protocol No. 194/2024. It is signed by ‘Monsignor’ John Joseph Kennedy, secretary of the DDF’s disciplinary section.

Viganò has posted a scan of the decree on the web site of his Exsurge Domine Foundation, as well as an English translation:

The main portion of the protocol states the following (bold print given):

I SUMMON

H. E. Mons. Carlo Maria Viganò to present himself, along with a valid identification document, on 20 June 2024 at 3:30 p.m., at the Palace of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, 00120 Vatican City, so that the same may take notice of the accusations and evidence concerning the crime of schism of which he has been accused (public statements which result in a denial of the elements necessary to maintain communion with the Catholic Church: denial of the legitimacy of Pope Francis, rupture of communion with Him, and rejection of the Second Vatican Council).

The accused is advised that he has the faculty to appoint an Advocate/Procurator whom he trusts in order to be defended/represented in the present trial and that, if he does not, one will be appointed for him.

The accused is also advised that in the absence of an appearance or a written defense, which must be forwarded to this Dicastery by 28 June 2024, he will be judged in his absence.

It is so noticed.

On his web site, ‘Abp.’ Viganò — we put ‘Archbishop’ in quotes simply because his ordination as a bishop was done according to the invalid Novus Ordo rite, and his rumored conditional re-ordination in the traditional Catholic rite by Bp. Richard Willimson has not been proved in public — has responded publicly with the following article:

In his reply, Vigano states confidently:

I regard the accusations against me as an honor. I believe that the very wording of the charges confirms the theses that I have repeatedly defended in my various addresses. It is no coincidence that the accusation against me concerns the questioning of the legitimacy of Jorge Mario Bergoglio and the rejection of Vatican II: the Council represents the ideological, theological, moral, and liturgical cancer of which the Bergoglian “synodal church” is the necessary metastasis.

He then gives a brief review of how Bergoglio helps to advance the globalist agenda under the guise of Catholicism. Concretely, he mentions ethnic substitution, the aberrosexual agenda, environmentalism, and the recent ‘pandemic’ and its injections. In sum, he accuses Francis of a “total alignment with the Davos religion“. He then continues his salvos against the Jesuit apostate from Buenos Aires:

Wherever governments at the service of the World Economic Forum have introduced or extended abortion, promoted vice, legitimized homosexual unions or gender transition, encouraged euthanasia, and tolerated the persecution of Catholics, not a word has been spent in defense of the Faith or Morals that are threatened, or in support of the civil battles of so many Catholics who have been abandoned by the Vatican and the Bishops. Not a word for the persecuted Catholics in China, with the complicity of the Holy See, which considers Beijing’s billions more important than the lives and freedom of thousands of Chinese who are faithful to the Roman Church. In the “synodal church” presided over by Bergoglio, no schism is recognized among the German Episcopate, or among the government-appointed Bishops who have been consecrated in China without the mandate of Rome. Because their action is consistent with the destruction of the Church, and therefore must be concealed, minimized, tolerated, and finally encouraged. In these eleven years of “pontificate” the Catholic Church has been humiliated and discredited above all because of the scandals and corruption of the leaders of the Hierarchy, which have been totally ignored even as the most ruthless Vatican authoritarianism raged against faithful priests and religious, small communities of traditional nuns, and communities tied to the Latin Mass.

A little further on, the former nuncio explains:

I am honored not to have – and indeed I do not want – any ecclesial communion with them: theirs is a lobby, which conceals its complicity with the masters of the world in order to deceive many souls and prevent any resistance against the establishment of the Kingdom of the Antichrist.

In the face of the Dicastery’s accusations, I claim, as Successor of the Apostles, to be in full communion with the Roman Catholic Apostolic Church, with the Magisterium of the Roman Pontiffs, and with the uninterrupted doctrinal, moral, and liturgical Tradition which they have faithfully preserved.

I repudiate the neomodernist errors inherent in the Second Vatican Council and in the so-called “post-conciliar magisterium,” in particular in matters of collegiality, ecumenism, religious freedom, the secularity of the State, and the liturgy.

I repudiate, reject, and condemn the scandals, errors, and heresies of Jorge Mario Bergoglio, who manifests an absolutely tyrannical management of power, exercised against the purpose that legitimizes Authority in the Church: an authority that is vicarious of that of Christ, and as such must obey Him alone. This separation of the Papacy from its legitimizing principle, which is Christ the High Priest, transforms the ministerium into a self-referential tyranny.

No Catholic worthy of the name can be in communion with this “Bergoglian church,” because it acts in clear discontinuity and rupture with all the Popes of history and with the Church of Christ.

Vigano then declares himself to be in solidarity with Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre (1905-1991), the founder of the Society of St. Pius X, whom the Vatican in 1988 declared to have excommunicated himself when he consecrated bishops without the mandate (and against the prohibition) of the man he acknowledged to be the Pope, namely, John Paul II:

Fifty years ago, in that same Palace of the Holy Office, Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre was summoned and accused of schism for rejecting Vatican II. His defense is mine; his words are mine; and his arguments are mine – arguments before which the Roman authorities could not condemn him for heresy, having to wait instead for him to consecrate bishops so as to have the pretext of declaring him schismatic and then revoking his excommunication when he was already dead. The scheme is repeated even after half a century has demonstrated Archbishop Lefebvre’s prophetic choice.

The former nuncio errs when he says that the Vatican revoked the excommunication against Lefebvre. Although in 2009 ‘Pope’ Benedict XVI did indeed rescind the excommunication against the four Lefebvrist bishops consecrated in 1988, he did not lift the excommunications against the two consecrators, Abp. Lefebvre and his co-consecrator, Bp. Antônio de Castro Mayer (1904-1991) of Campos, Brazil.

It would have been helpful to get from ‘Abp.’ Vigano a crystal-clear declaration that he believes Jorge Bergoglio is not, and never has been, the Pope of the Catholic Church, but alas, one can only infer it from the things he says and the way he says them.

Although many good-willed traditionalists quickly jumped on Vigano’s bandwagon when he began thundering against the false popes and the fake ecumenical council, Novus Ordo Watch has refrained from doing so. The reason is quite simply that although he certainly says many good and true things that need to be said, he nevertheless has been promoting some very troublesome theology and even switched back to embracing the errors of Vatican II as soon as it seemed politically expedient to him.

The following is a selection of some of our articles on ‘Abp.’ Vigano, in which we try to assess his theological stance fairly and charitably but also firmly:

The irony in the Vatican’s trial of Vigano is just priceless. The Church of Universal Inclusion — which does not tire to repeat that “everyone, everyone, everyone” is to be included, even heretics and apostates — seeks to exclude one of its own.

The very “customs office” Francis says the Catholic Church cannot have, is now reopening under new management, ready to expel someone they do not have any room for, after all. Thus is exposed their lie about inclusion. It is not about ‘bringing everybody in’. Rather, it is about swapping the included for the excluded, and vice versa.

We note with great amusement that the decree summoning Vigano does not speak about ‘partial communion’, that favorite Vatican II idea always applied to Protestants, Orthodox, and other heretics and schismatics. No, it only speaks about ‘communion’ without further qualification, as if it were an all-or-nothing thing. Which it is, of course, but not according to their own ecclesiology.

It stands to reason that the Modernists in Rome will convict Vigano of the charge of schism. The question, however, is how meaningful this will be for an institution that teaches the false ecclesiology of Vatican II.

Indeed, with its errors about religious unity (promulgated for the sake of enabling Catholic participation in ecumenism), the Vatican II Sect has maneuvered itself into a corner from which there is no escaping, and the Viganò trial will underscore that. For, insofar as they convict the former nunio of schism, the fact remains that according to their own magisterium….

…so what does any of this matter?

This promises to be a fun ride. Make popcorn, folks!
