On Pelican Plus, Sebastian Morello refers to the Novus Ordo liturgy as a “counterfeit liturgy” that fails to worship God truly. While this criticism of the rite is no doubt accurate, the fact that Morello recognizes Paul VI as a true Pope means he falls under the anathema of Trent: “If anyone says that the ceremonies, vestments, and outward signs, which the Catholic Church uses in the celebration of Masses, are incentives to impiety rather than the services of piety: let him be anathema” (Session 22, Canon 7; Denz. 954). Why do these people continually get away with this? Why is it that in Recognize-and-Resist Land, this canon doesn’t matter? Why do people identify as ‘traditional’ a position that is so clearly contrary to actual Catholic Tradition?

If you have a Novus Ordo church under one roof with a casino for over 30 years, does that mean it’s basically traditional?

Regarding the SSPX, a Novus Ordo theologian hits the nail on the head: “The SSPX simply thinks it is the only safe guardian of the Catholic Faith, and that the Pope must therefore listen to them about what to do—or else they will do what they want.” The Lefebvrists should finally understand that it is their recognition of Leo XIV and his six predecessors as true Popes that makes SSPX ‘traditionalism’ grotesquely impossible.
