“Francis Talks Too Much”:
An Interview with SSPX Superior General Bishop Bernard Fellay
The Superior General of the Society of St. Pius X, Bishop Bernard Fellay, has given an interview in which he discusses “Pope” Francis, the state of the Novus Ordo Church, and how the SSPX is currently engaging in its “resistance” against both. Conducted in French, the interview is available with English subtitles in the video above, but you can also read a full English transcript here:
Here are some highlights of what Bp. Fellay says in the interview:
- On Francis: “I think that he talks too much” and “this is not a man of doctrine.”
- On Francis’ controversial, erroneous, and heretical statements which he sometimes later “revises”: “I think that one of the most unfortunate things about these statements is that they have spoiled his credibility; they have taken away much of the credibility of the Supreme Pontiff, so that when he has to speak about important things, now or in the future, those statements will be put at the same level as the others. People will say: ‘He is trying to please everyone: one move to the left, one move to the right.'” [Novus Ordo Watch Comment: Pope Pius VI condemned those who introduced bold novelties but whose “seemingly shocking affirmations in one place are further developed along orthodox lines in other places, and even in yet other places corrected; as if allowing for the possibility of either affirming or denying the statement, or of leaving it up to the personal inclinations of the individual – such has always been the fraudulent and daring method used by innovators to establish error. It allows for both the possibility of promoting error and of excusing it” (Bull Auctorem Fidei).]
- On his calling Francis a “genuine Modernist”: “I used the word ‘modernist;’ I think that it was not understood by everybody. Perhaps I should have said a modernist in his actions. Once again, he is not a modernist in the absolute, theoretical sense: a man who develops a whole coherent system; that coherence does not exist.” [Novus Ordo Watch Comment: Bp. Fellay seems to be contradicting his earlier accusation against Francis here, because he called Bergoglio a “genuine Modernist” precisely in the context of false teaching – not action (see quotes here). In any case, Pope St. Pius X said Modernists can be identified by “their tenets, their manner of speech, and their action” (Encyclical Pascendi, par. 3) and called them “the most pernicious of all the adversaries of the Church” (ibid.).]
- On Francis’ impact on the Church: “For the moment, nothing has been done to remedy the situation of deviance, of decadence in the Church, absolutely nothing, no measure that affects the whole Church. We might mention the Encyclical on the faith; I don’t think that we can consider that as an effective measure. Certainly not.”
- On the defection of the Novus Ordo Church: “Therefore the headquarters of the Church will suddenly find itself the headquarters of the Antichrist. These are the very words of the Blessed Virgin: ‘Rome will become the seat of the Antichrist.’ These are the words of La Salette. Just like: ‘Rome will lose the faith,’ ‘the eclipse of the Church’; thus very forceful words contrasting with the promise [of Matthew 16:18 – ‘the gates of hell shall not prevail’). This does not mean that the promise is null and void; obviously it remains, but it does not rule out a moment of such suffering for the Church that one could consider it as an apparent death.'” [Novus Ordo Watch Comment: This is all over the place. Bp. Fellay is struggling to assert the promise of the Church’s indefectibility with the fact that the Novus Ordo Church has obviously defected from the True Faith. But the solution to this conundrum is simply to stick to what the Church teaches indefectibility means, which then, however, leads to the necessary conclusion that Francis is not the Pope, the Vatican II Church is a fraud, and the true Catholic Church of Pope Pius XII is “in eclipse” — see more on this in the links below. The “apparent death” of the Church lies in the fact that she is eclipsed from our sight by the false Novus Ordo Church, which is the apostate anti-church predicted in prophecy.]
The Society of St. Pius X, as much as we sympathize with the many good-willed people who adhere to it, is simply a “false opposition” in this tragic eclipse of the Church. The SSPX adamantly refuses to recognize the vacancy of the Apostolic See and the illegitimacy of the Vatican II Church and instead twists and distorts Catholic teaching in order to be able to shoehorn the Novus Ordo Sect into people’s consciousness as the true Catholic Church, albeit “sick.” The links below contain many articles that show how untenable, uncatholic, and theologically indefensible the SSPX’s position really is.
