Arthur Roche suddenly opposes Protestantism…

Oops! Turns out new ‘Cardinal’ who denounced Traditionalists as Protestants participated in Anglican Liturgy in 2017

The Englishman Arthur Roche is “Pope” Francis’ right-hand henchman in the Vatican in charge of regulating the worldwide liturgical chaos that passes for “Catholic worship” in our day. As prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, he is also quite specifically in charge of implementing Traditionis Custodes, Jorge Bergoglio’s decree revoking Benedict XVI’s Summorum Pontificum.

Considering the high position to which Francis appointed him just last year, it won’t surprise too many people to learn that Roche detests the Traditional Latin Roman Catholic Mass and instead opts for the fabricated Modernist-Protestant liturgy that is the Novus Ordo Missae of “Saint” Paul VI, promulgated in 1969, otherwise known simply as the “New Mass”.

In his first speech as head of the liturgical dicastery — he had served as its secretary since 2012 — Roche wasted no time echoing Francis’ 2017 declaration that the post-Vatican II liturgical revolution is “irreversible”:

A 72-year-old layman (on account of the invalidity of Novus Ordo ordinations), Roche has been playing “Catholic priest” since 1975, “Catholic bishop” since 2001, and now “cardinal of the holy Roman Church” since this past Saturday, Aug. 27, 2022, when Antipope Bergoglio put the red hat on him during a consistory in St. Peter’s Basilica.

Given the special occasion, The Tablet has published an article on the new “Cardinal” Roche, including some interesting comments of his regarding the Second Vatican Council and the Novus Ordo liturgy:

England’s new cardinal says those who are “stubbornly opposing” the liturgical reforms of the Second Vatican Council are in danger of adopting a position that is no longer Catholic.

…“The council is the highest legislation that exists in the Church,” he told The Tablet and the National Catholic Reporter. “If you disregard that, you are putting yourself sideways, to the edges of the Church. You are becoming more Protestant than you are Catholic.”

…“That reform is taking place, but it’s a slow process because there are those who are dragging their feet with regard to this and not only dragging their feet but stubbornly opposing what the Church has actually decreed. That’s a very serious matter. In the end, people have to ask themselves: am I really a Catholic, or am I more of a Protestant?”

(Christopher Lamb, “Stubborn opposition to Vatican II ‘not Catholic’ says cardinal”, The Tablet, Aug. 28, 2022)

It is always quite amusing how these Modernist pseudo-prelates discover their supposed disdain for Protestantism as soon as it comes in handy to slap people who are traditionalists precisely because they detest the Protestantization of Catholicism, of which the New Mass is a glaring manifestation.

For the sake of this post, we will leave aside the fact that there is a difference between what Vatican II called for in Sacrosanctum Concilium and what ended up being the liturgical revolution of 1969. We will also pass over the fact that of course it is never legitimate for a Catholic to reject or resist the solemnly promulgated decrees of an ecumenical council or the universal liturgical directives of a Roman Pontiff.

As Pope Pius XII pointed out in his landmark encyclical on the Sacred Liturgy:

It follows from this that the Sovereign Pontiff alone enjoys the right to recognize and establish any practice touching the worship of God, to introduce and approve new rites, as also to modify those he judges to require modification. Bishops, for their part, have the right and duty carefully to watch over the exact observance of the prescriptions of the sacred canons respecting divine worship. Private individuals, therefore, even though they be clerics, may not be left to decide for themselves in these holy and venerable matters, involving as they do the religious life of Christian society along with the exercise of the priesthood of Jesus Christ and worship of God; concerned as they are with the honor due to the Blessed Trinity, the Word Incarnate and His august mother and the other saints, and with the salvation of souls as well. For the same reason no private person has any authority to regulate external practices of this kind, which are intimately bound up with Church discipline and with the order, unity and concord of the Mystical Body and frequently even with the integrity of Catholic faith itself.

(Pope Pius XII, Encyclical Mediator Dei, n. 58; underlining added.)

In this post, instead, we will simply focus on the utterly ludicrous double standard displayed by “Cardinal” Roche. Since when is this gang of apostates which has infested the Vatican for decades concerned about Protestantism as a spiritual danger or other problem? Here is a small selection of how the Vatican, and especially “Pope” Francis, looks at Protestantism:

…And no wonder, for Vatican II blasphemously asserted that Protestant denominations “have been by no means deprived of significance and importance in the mystery of salvation. For the Spirit of Christ has not refrained from using them as means of salvation which derive their efficacy from the very fullness of grace and truth entrusted to the Church” (Decree Unitatis Redintegratio, n. 3)!

So, yeah… complaining that resistance to the post-Vatican II liturgical chaos is “Protestant” is not a terribly powerful argument to make for the post-Catholic prelates in the Eternal City. Neither does it make sense to warn people that they are “putting [themselves] sideways, to the edges of the Church”, when it is Novus Ordo doctrine that Protestants are “members of one and the same mystical body of Christ”, according to Francis.

In fact, Roche’s argumentation becomes even more laughable and is exposed as utterly hypocritical when we recall that back in 2017, he participated in an Anglican Evensong liturgy in St. Peter’s Basilica! Remember?

Note well: We are not talking about an ecumenical liturgy in which both Anglicans and “Catholics” participated, which would have been bad enough. No, we are talking about an Anglican-only liturgy in which Roche (and some Novus Ordo cardinal) participated. Not only did Roche join in prayer with his fellow-non-Catholics, however, he even gave the homily!

The following very brief video clip shows then-“Abp.” Roche processing out with the Anglican pseudo-clergy:

This took place on Mar. 13, 2017, the fourth anniversary of Bergoglio’s election as head of the Vatican II Sect.

The online source of this clip, interestingly enough, was the Twitter account of Christopher Lamb, the journalist who published the article in The Tablet quoted above.

If Mr. Roche or any other of these Vatican II clowns want to talk about Protestantism, therefore, we would be more than happy to oblige. And then we’ll see who the real Protestant is.
