Alas, not the “Fire & Brimstone Award”…

Mexican Novus Ordo Bishop receives Award for Homo Rights Activism

Mr. José Raúl Vera López, O.P., is the former Novus Ordo bishop of Saltillo, Mexico. He retired only this past November, having originally been appointed to this post on Dec. 30, 1999, by “Saint” John Paul II of unhappy memory. Lopez is a prime product of the Novus Ordo religion and comes with approval from the highest echelons, having been (invalidly) ordained a priest by false pope Paul VI himself in 1975 and (likewise invalidly) consecrated a bishop by false pope John Paul II in 1988.

In August of 2013, Lopez caused a stir when he said that people who consider homosexuality to be a perversion are mentally ill. In other words, to believe what all Catholics must believe regarding same-sex attraction, is to show signs of a mental disorder. Here is a translation of his exact words, which actually suggest a denial of original sin:

One mother came to me and said that she was being watchful of her son because he was hanging out with “those degenerate gays” and I said “so blame yourself for it because that’s the way your son developed in your womb and he didn’t develop into a degenerate or a perverse person. He was born with a certain constitution you are trying to ignore. Calm down, you are the mother of that child and he began to be who he now is inside your womb. So the first one I’d kick out would be you because you are the perverse one who is first in line.” That’s what I said.

Why would I immediately think a gay or lesbian person is perverse or depraved the moment they approach me? That’s how people who are homophobic react. It’s a mental illness in which you see gays as depraved and promiscuous. You have to be sick in the head for that.

(“Bp.” José Raúl Vera Lopez on Terra Mexico TV, August 19, 2013; our translation.)

In other words, this fake bishop claims that Catholics are perverted and “sick in the head” for adhering to divine revelation. It’s anyone’s guess as to what religion that man practices, but it’s definitely not Catholicism. More information about this incident can be found here:

Mr. Lopez’s contemptuous and blasphemous attitude is not new under the sun, of course (cf. Eccl 1:10). Around 700 years before Christ, the prophet Isaias issued the stern warning: “Woe to you that call evil good, and good evil: that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter” (Is 5:20).

Clearly, it’s time for a brief sanity check.

Human sexuality is by its very nature heterosexual. The two sexes (yes, there are only two) complement one another. Hence “male and female [God] created them” (Gen 1:27), giving them the command that they should “increase and multiply” (Gen 1:28). Given how man’s generative faculties function, it is clear that sexual attraction has been designed by God the Creator as necessarily an attraction to the sex opposite one’s own. Male attracts female; female attracts male. “And God saw all the things that he had made, and they were very good” (Gen 1:31). None of this is in any way difficult to understand.

With the fall of man through original sin (see Gen 3) and the consequences that flow from it, man lost the perfect control he had originally had over all his passions. Concupiscence — a natural inclination to sin — entered the world, and only God’s grace can help us overcome it. God has made this grace available to us without any merit on our part (see Eph 2:8-9), but He will not dispense it without our cooperation (cf. Mt 7:7-11; 15:22-28; Lk 11:5-8; Apoc 3:20). Therefore, mortification and other acts of penance are necessary: “And they that are Christ’s, have crucified their flesh, with the vices and concupiscences” (Gal 5:24). To that end, God has traced out for us the way of the Cross: “He humbled himself, becoming obedient unto death, even to the death of the cross” (Phil 2:8). Thus, the life of the Christian must be the way of the Cross: “Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me” (Mt 16:24).

Thus, a person who experiences an attraction to members of the same sex is bound not to consent to that attraction. He (or she) may experience it as desirable — all temptations present themselves as desirable in some form –, but as long as the attraction is not willed in any way, there is no sin. Simply having such an experience is not sinful and may not be the person’s fault at all. Sin, like virtue, lies chiefly in the will.

At the same time, the fact remains that same-sex attraction is in itself perverted in the true sense of the word. To pervert means to turn to an evil end. Thus homosexuality is per se perverted because it turns sexuality from its proper end, to an end for which it was not created and which frustrates the proper end. People who publicly display themselves as homosexuals have obviously consented to the perversion and even take pride in it. It is therefore correct to speak of “those degenerate gays”, as the woman mentioned in the interview did, because such sodomites are not merely tempted to perversion but have succumbed to it to the point that they identify with it.

Had Lopez simply explained that the mere and unwanted attraction to the same sex is not a sin, there would be nothing to fault him for. But Lopez’s position goes far beyond that, for he believes that same-sex attraction is not to be rejected, fought, or considered depraved but is to be affirmed, nurtured, and celebrated. That is why the sodomite lobby loves him, as we will now see.

On Jan. 27, 2021, “Bishop” Lopez received an award from the homo-perverted Comunidad San Aelredo, the so-called Medalla Nancy Cárdenas. It is a medal named after Nancy Cárdenas (1934-94), a lesbian activist who was both a feminist and a Communist. This year is the first time that this “honor” is given, and no doubt Mr. Lopez is a most worthy recipient.

Here is an image of the anti-Catholic “bishop” as he receives his prize (he’s the one on the right):

The full video of the presentation of the award can be watched on Facebook. The above is a screenshot taken from it. One of the speakers in the video thanks Lopez for “being a prophet of inclusion” — the “Pope” himself couldn’t have said it better! And indeed, if photos and body language are any indication, Francis esteems “Bp.” Lopez immensely.

The Nancy Cárdenas Medal is not the first award the homophile pseudo-bishop has been presented with. He has received at least half a dozen such prizes, including the Rafto Prize for “human rights” in 2010. This is not surprising, for the world rewards its own. St. Paul the Apostle must have had “Bp.” Lopez in mind when he spoke of those “whose glory is in their shame” (Phil 3:19).

Regardless of all his earthly rewards, however, it is infallibly certain that sooner or later, Mr. Lopez will receive an eternal one. Whether it is the kind he expects, is another question:

But according to thy hardness and impenitent heart, thou treasurest up to thyself wrath, against the day of wrath, and revelation of the just judgment of God. Who will render to every man according to his works. To them indeed, who according to patience in good work, seek glory and honour and incorruption, eternal life: But to them that are contentious, and who obey not the truth, but give credit to iniquity, wrath and indignation.

(Romans 2:5-8)

Obedience to the truth isn’t Lopez’s strong suit.

Giving credit to iniquity is.
