Part 1

Most Rev. Mark A. Pivarunas

As part of their ongoing broadcast series “From the Pulpit,” our friends at The Restoration Radio Network are making available a very informative multi-part sermon by His Excellency, Bishop Mark Pivarunas, CMRI, on the ways in which Satan is trying to deceive even the elect, as warned by our Blessed Lord Jesus Christ in Matthew 24:24: “For there shall arise false Christs and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders, insomuch as to deceive (if possible) even the elect.”

The following description of Part 1 of Bp.

The Anti-Modernist Reader:
Studies on the New Religion of Vatican II

Volume 1: The Papacy

Edited by Rev. Anthony Cekada

The Anti-Modernist Reader is a multi-volume anthology of articles written by several sedevacantist clerics since the 1990s, many of which have been published at TraditionalMass.org. The essays are arranged topically, with each volume being dedicated to a particular topic. This first volume, now published, deals with the divinely-established office of the papacy. Future volumes will include material on the Holy Mass, on the Sacraments, on Sedevacantism, and more.

To give you an introduction to this series and provide some of the background of how the idea for this anthology came about, our friends at Restoration Radio have put together a short broadcast, free of charge, discussing The Anti-Modernist Reader with its editor and co-author: CLICK HERE TO LISTEN.

The Pope and the Antichrist:

The Great Apostasy Foretold

As we all suffer through these most distressing times in which confusion and chaos reign among all who seek to be genuinely Catholic, members of the only true religion established by God, it is helpful and important to reflect on the fact that the situation we find ourselves in today — no (known) valid Pope since 1958, and no apparent Catholic bishop left with ordinary jurisdiction, while a counterfeit institution masquerades as the Catholic Church, spreading heresy, immorality, and impiety — was foretold in Holy Scripture.

“Heretical Popes” & Vatican I:
A Follow-Up

pius9.jpg

The First Vatican Council was called by the longest-reigning Pope in history:
Pius IX (1846-1878)

Our post of April 7 discussing the question of “heretical” Popes in light of testimony given by Archbishop John Purcell (1800-1883) that the Fathers of the First Vatican Council said such a thing was impossible, has generated plenty of interest and discussion among sedevacantists and non-sedevacantists.

It was to be expected that this latest piece of evidence for Sedevacantism wasn’t going to sit well with our critics, and so it comes as no surprise that some have tried to accuse us of “taking things out of context” and of “cherry-picking quotes”.

The Question of a Heretical Pope considered by the First Vatican Council

[See also our Follow-Up Post here]

While certain self-styled “traditionalists” and “real Catholics” are currently pushing the attractive and convenient but utterly false and disastrous idea that the Catholic Church had Popes in her history who were heretics but were still valid Popes, we at Novus Ordo Watch like to go by actual Church teaching and verifiable facts.

Besides such blowhards as Michael Voris (at 5:54 here) and Eric Gajewski (here), one of the biggest loudmouths out there who is pushing this bewildering error of “heretical but valid Popes” is the anonymous English blogger Mundabor, whom we recently gave a good spanking for his train wreck of a theological analysis on the Novus Ordo Missae.

Novus Ordo Missae: The Modernist Worship Service in Action

If you want to have a stellar example of the warped theology and mental gymnastics you have to embrace in Neo-Traditionalist Wonderland, look no further than the issues being discussed by Mundabor and Louie Verrecchio on whether the “New Mass” (Novus Ordo Missae of Paul VI) is evil and/or sinful to attend. There we have two individuals who use Catholic principles very selectively and/or turn a blind eye to what is right in front of them, in order not to have to embrace that which would otherwise follow necessarily: Sedevacantism.

Resistance Madness: A Sedevacantist looks at Bp. Williamson’s Justification for Consecrating Bp. Faure

We do not typically simply republish other people’s blog posts, but in this case, we will make an exception as the post shows the anti-Catholic ideas inherent in the justifications given by Bp. Richard Williamson for his recent episcopal consecration of Bp. Jean-Michel Faure, both formerly with the Society of St. Pius X.

The following is a repost from the blog Introibo ad Altare Dei. With a few minor exceptions, all formatting has been retained as in the original post, which is entitled Pater Noster?

Released on March 11, TRADCAST 003 is an in-depth response to Eric Gajewski of the TradCatKnight blog, who had attempted to refute our post, “Pope Leo XIII Quashes Popular ‘Recognize-and-Resist’ Position”, where we published, for the first time ever on the internet, English translations of two little-known Apostolic Letters of Pope Leo XIII (d. 1903), in which the Sovereign Pontiff teaches that Catholic laymen have an obligation to submit to their bishops and the Pope, and must accept their teachings with docility and give their assent.

The “Heretical” Popes
Part 1: Adrian VI

[UPDATE 07-APR-2015: The First Vatican Council on the Question of a Heretical Pope]

There are two major lines of argument used by people who are rabidly anti-sedevacantist; that is, those who oppose the position of Sedevacantism not on account of evidence, real or imagined, but on account of a desire to see the position opposed for some other motive.

The first line of argumentation is to downplay the problems with the Vatican II “Popes” to make them seem less serious than they are. The second line of argumentation is to exaggerate the problems with some true Popes of the past to make them seem comparable to the situation we find ourselves in today, when outright apostates are claiming the papal office, especially Francis, Benedict XVI, John Paul II, and Paul VI.

Robert Siscoe and The Remnant’s Latest Canon Law Fiasco

As of late, a number of articles critical of the Sedevacantist position have been published by the usual semi-traditionalist opinion outlets — Catholic Family News and The Remnant. While Novus Ordo Watch always makes every effort to provide a response to such articles, in recent months we have been so busy with just keeping up on the daily chaos perpetrated by Francis that such larger projects have been delayed. In addition, we Sedevacantists are greatly outnumbered by adherents to the more popular and much more convenient semi-trad “recognize-and-resist” position, so on that score alone it is always easier for the other side to produce more content and to do so more frequently.

Scrambling to maintain Francis is Pope…

de-mattei.jpg

Dr. De Mattei’s Anti-Sedevacantist Tranquilizer

As it becomes more and more undeniable that the man who claims to be “Pope Francis” of the Catholic Church is in fact an anti-Catholic heretic (apostate, to be exact), various thinkers who adhere to the Modernist Vatican II Church are scrambling to look for ways to maintain that even though Francis may be a heretic, this does not mean he cannot be the Pope. One way to do that is to attempt to find historical precedent, parallels in history to the situation today, where there was a Pope who — supposedly — was a heretic and yet remained Pope, with a church that “resisted” him.

Culpable Ignorance & the Great Apostasy: A Sobering Reality Check

jeffrey-knight.jpg

During last year’s Fatima Conference sponsored by the Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen (CMRI) in Spokane, Washington, Mr. Jeffrey Knight, pictured above, gave a most informative lecture on the subject of every Catholic’s duty to know his Faith, even, and especially, in our difficult times. Too often, people try to take the easy way out and find excuses to not investigate what the Catholic Faith requires us to hold — and how it requires us to act — with respect to the Modernists in the Vatican claiming to be the legitimate Roman Catholic authorities.

Is Francis a Valid Pope?
—Why It Does Matter

novus-ogre-silhouette.jpg

In a blog post published on October 25, 2014 by The Remnant, pseudonymous author ‘Megaera Erinyes’ tries a new approach to the issue of Sedevacantism, the question of whether Francis is in fact a valid Pope or an illicit usurper: She says it doesn’t matter.

Now that’s just rich for a publication that has spent considerable amounts of ink opposing Sedevacantism over the decades. What is going on here?

In what follows, we will look at some salient points made in the Erinyes article and contrast them with traditional Catholic teaching to explain why it really does matter if Francis is the Pope.
