Deflating a misused analogy…

On that “Passion of the Church” Argument

francis-kiss-judas.jpg

Yes, the Church is undergoing a Passion, but Francis isn’t Simon Peter — he’s Judas

It has become quite popular in recent weeks for Semi-Traditionalists to justify their utterly novel and theologically absurd “recognize-and-resist” position by simply repeating an attractive but misleading analogy found in the new book True or False Pope? by John Salza, a former 32nd-degree Freemason, and Robert Siscoe (pp. 9-10, 23, 39-40, 80, 677-680). According to this idea, the Catholic Church is currently undergoing a Mystical Passion, similar to that of her Divine Founder: Like Him, she is bleeding and agonizing, lacerated and disfigured; like Him, she is suffering at the hands of the lawful spiritual authorities.

When did Nestorius Lose his Office?
A Refutation of John Salza & Robert Siscoe

louis-billot.jpg

Cardinal Louis Billot, S.J. (1846-1931)

The huffing and puffing anti-sedevacantist apologists over at TrueOrFalsePope.com are currently busy publishing countless excerpts from their 700-page book as separate, individual articles. One such article posted on Feb. 2 criticizes Sedevacantists for pointing out that Nestorius automatically and immediately ceased to be the valid bishop of the see of Constantinople at the moment he became a public heretic, and not only after a legal declaration by the Church. This, John Salza and Robert Siscoe maintain, is false: “Nestorius was not deposed by ‘Divine law’ the moment he began preaching heresy, but was instead deposed after the Church itself rendered a judgment”, they argue (italics given).

Speaking of “Private Judgment”…

False Resistance Theology:
The Pope Speaks — You Decide!

salza gavel.jpg

Who needs a Pope when you can have self-appointed sifters and resisters?

It looks like this year is shaping up to be a veritable armageddon between the false traditionalist recognize-and-resist position and Sedevacantism. Very good, let it be so, for this is an all-important issue. The current strategy being executed by John Salza & Robert Siscoe — authors of True Or False Pope? — appears to be that of an attempted one-two punch of flooding the debate with a flurry of short articles so as to try to overwhelm us, and using a “divide-and-conquer” tactic by focusing on matters on which sedevacantists do not agree so as to prevent a unified response and paralyze us, as it were, perhaps hoping we will yell at each other instead of Salza and Siscoe.

It is 2016, and we are excited to begin Season 2 of our podcast program.

The all-new TRADCAST 011 was released today, January 15, 2016. During this 40-minute episode, we talk about the release of the new 700-page book, True or False Pope? Refuting Sedevacantism and other Modern Errors, by John Salza and Robert Siscoe, which was published on January 6. As if determined to prove Salza and Siscoe wrong in the most embarrassing way possible, that same day “Pope” Francis released a shocking video promoting indifferentism, syncretism, and agnosticism to promote his prayer intention for the month of January, namely, “That sincere dialogue among men and women of different faiths may produce the fruits of peace and justice”.

Why Suarez’s position cannot be held today

The Opinion of Francisco Suarez on the Question of a Heretical Pope

As Neo-Traditionalists John Salza and Robert Siscoe begin to ship the first copies of their new book against Sedevacantism to their hapless recipients, we continue to rain on their parade by refuting some of the errors we expect to see in their work, which have been around for decades. The following is an excerpt from John Daly’s book against the pseudo-traditionalist pioneer and SSPX apologist Michael Davies (1936-2004), whose research and argumentation has long been the bedrock for probably most of the English-speaking world on traditionalist issues, including Sedevacantism.

True Or False Pope?
On that Alleged “Irrational Response” by Sedevacantists

OK, so we changed the cover a little… This is only to remind people who the authors claim keeps the gates of hell from prevailing against the Modernist Sect…

The year of our Lord 2016 promises to be loaded with fireworks. Ahead of the official release of the new, 700-page book arguing against Sedevacantism, True or False Pope?, written by John Salza and Robert Siscoe and published by the Society of St. Pius X, the authors have opened a “Sedevacantist Watch” section on their web site.

Sedevacantophobia:
Why do so many Traditionalists Fear Sedevacantism?

Holy Scripture teaches us that when Almighty God created the first man, He created him, and thus also his progeny, in His own image and likeness: “And he said: Let us make man to our image and likeness…” (Gen 1:26; cf. Gen 2:7). By “image and likeness” are meant our intellect and will, the possession of which distinguishes us from brute animals (cf. Pope Leo XIII, Encyclical Exeunte Iam Anno, n. 14). Our intellect and will belong to our rational soul, which God infuses into our bodies. The function of our intellect is to know, and the function of our will is to love.

In TRADCAST 009, released on November 18, 2015, we spend roughly 50 minutes to present to you two info-packed segments of hard-hitting Catholic commentary and analysis. We take a look at “Pope” Francis’ obsessive condemnation of metaphorical idolatry (“idolatry of money”, “idolatry of consumerism”, etc.) and contrast it with his curious failure to condemn real idolatry (as found in paganism), nay, his veritable confirmation of heathen idolaters in the practice of their false and abominable religions!

The Party is over…

Stuck in a Rut:
Anti-Sedevacantism in the Age of Bergoglio

francis-broken-staff-crozier.jpg

Over the past two years or so, a veritable barrage of anti-sedevacantist articles has appeared in online and offline publications of the recognize-and-resist camp, penned mostly by lay authors who have dabbled in various pieces of Catholic theological and canonical literature but who have no genuine grasp of the subject matter they are pontificating about. Their approach to the question of whether Francis is a valid Pope is often not deductive — applying Catholic principles to the evidence before us and then drawing the conclusion that follows — but inductive instead, beginning with the desired conclusion that Francis is a valid Pope and then attempting to come up with “evidence” that seems to necessitate this conclusion.

Can a Heretical Pope Be Deposed?

St. Robert Bellarmine Refutes the Anti-Sedevacantists

As we had announced in one of our News Digests recently, the monumental theological work De Romano Pontifice(“On the Roman Pontiff”) of Cardinal St. Robert Bellarmine, S.J., has now been translated into English, for the first time ever. The translator is Mr. Ryan Grant of Mediatrix Press, and the English-speaking world owes him a tremendous amount of gratitude.

The English On the Roman Pontiff is being published in two volumes, with the first volume containing Books I and II, and the second volume containing Books III, IV, and V.

Bergoglio Has Nothing to Lose …Like the Papacy, for Example

by Rev. Anthony Cekada

francis-flying-zucchetto.jpg

Never his anyway!

SINCE JORGE MARIO BERGOGLIO’S election in March 2013, I’ve heard from more and more traditional Catholics who are starting to wonder whether sedevacantism might now be the only coherent way to explain the state of affairs in the post-Vatican II church. As I noted in a post late last year:

“After all, how can you reconcile the countless outrageous public statements that Bergoglio has made (no Catholic God, who am I to judge, doctrinal security is not possible, proselytism is nonsense, etc.) with the claim that he is indeed the true Successor of Peter?
